About This Pub

Ah, The King Alfred & Alfies – what a gem of a pub in Lowestoft! From the chats I've had about it, it's got this inviting feel where the staff, especially the landlord, really shine through with their attentiveness and warm welcomes. Whether you're there for a birthday do or just to enjoy a few drinks and some live tunes, it sounds like a right cheerful spot that pulls the community together nicely. The reviews are mostly glowing, with folks raving about the great atmosphere and how nothing's too much trouble. But, to keep it real, there was that one off-putting moment when someone got turned away on a Bank Holiday, which is a bit of a downer and might leave you scratching your head about their hours. Still, with such a solid reputation overall, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're after a relaxed night out – just pop in when you know it's open and you're in for a treat!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant and so welcoming, always going the extra mile to make sure everyone has a great time.
  • It's got a really warm and friendly atmosphere, perfect for catching up with mates or enjoying live music and community events.
  • A top spot for hosting parties or just popping in for a pint – the owners are accommodating and keep things running smoothly.
  • Feels like a proper community gem with regular goings-on that bring people together.
Cons
  • There have been a few gripes about inconsistent opening times, like getting turned away when you'd expect the doors to be open.
  • It might not always roll out the red carpet for new visitors, based on some experiences that felt a bit dismissive.

Bank Holiday Sunday, myself and others behind us wanted a drink at 8pm....turned away....really? ....opened recently....surely you should be encouraging trade and not turning them away. I was really glad to hear you'd opened the Alfread. You need to get yourself out there and not be so dismissive.

Re opened as of April 2025 using Lacons as brewery. Cash/Card accepted. Good local singer was on when I visited. Would recommend. Didn't have food - just drinks.
