About This Pub
You know, when you fancy a proper pub experience in Lowestoft, The Flying Dutchman really hits the spot for me – it's got this cosy feel with food that's not only delicious but also won't break the bank, like their amazing steak pie or those Monday pizzas for a fiver. The staff are just brilliant, always up for a laugh and making sure you're looked after, which makes up for any small delays in service. On the flip side, though, the music can crank up a bit too much for my liking, especially if you're after a quiet pint, and I've heard a couple of tales about minor food mishaps, like slightly burnt gravy, but nothing that ruins the meal. All in all, with a solid 4.4 rating from folks who've been there, it's worth popping in for a relaxed evening – just keep those earplugs handy if you're sensitive to noise, and you'll have a top-notch time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious home-cooked meals like steak pie and pizzas for just £5, all at a great value
-
Staff are really friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in
-
They've got a cracking selection of beers, perfect for settling in with mates for a good chat
-
It's got that welcoming pub vibe, with a recent refurb that adds a bit of character, and the overall rating shows it's a solid choice
Cons
-
The music can get a tad too loud at times, which might bother those with sensitive hearing
-
Service can be a bit slow on occasion, even if the staff are lovely about keeping you updated
-
There have been a few niggles with food, like the gravy being a bit burnt in one case, though it's not a deal-breaker
-
The interior might look like it's still sorting itself out after the refurb, so it doesn't always feel fully polished

Good food cheaply priced. Great beer. Friendly pub. Steak pie is amazing. Pizza on a Monday for a £5. Cant go wrong.
Sunday Lunch was excellent and service quick. Only a small point but the gravy had obviously caught (burnt) but not so much that it was inedible. I note that the pub was refurbished in 2023. Did you deliberately go for a distressed look. Congratulations if you did it worked. If not when are you completing the refurbishment?
I visited here with my family, the interior design looks like it’s having a bit of refurb done at the moment which is why I’ve knocked it down a star, however, we were greeted by a lovely staff member who was really attentive and the food was incredible, especially considering how good value for money it was 😱 and let’s just say you won’t leave there with an empty stomach as the portions are generous! we honestly couldn’t believe it we were absolutely gobsmacked! If you want delicious cheap food please go here! Thank you very much. 10/10! ❤️
Would have given 5 stars but the music was too loud for me at times. I have sensitive hearing so it probably is fine for others. However we have been several times now and the food is excellent and home cooked and the staff are friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Food service was a little slow but the lovely young lady apologised and kept us informed.
The food was well worth the wait! The best game pie I have ever had and all meals were delicious and plenty of it too!
