About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Haymakers, it's got that real homely pub feel that's hard to beat in Cambridge. The beer is always a highlight – fresh and full of character, making it a go-to for a proper pint. Pair that with the snug fireplace on chilly nights or the big beer garden when the sun's out, and you've got a spot that's just right for unwinding. The food's pretty decent too; those pizzas are a real treat, coming out fast and packed with flavour, which makes it a winner for a casual meal. It's super inclusive, welcoming families and dogs alike, so it's ideal if you're after a laid-back place for a get-together. But, let's be honest, it's not without its downsides – the menu doesn't offer a massive range, so you might find yourself wanting more options, and the prices can feel a bit steep for what you get. The staff are efficient enough, but they don't always go the extra mile with a cheery chat, and the venue could use a good tidy-up as it gets a bit worn in places. All in all, it's a solid choice for a night out, especially if you're local, but it might not wow you if you're after something more polished.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot-on, with excellent choices that really hit the mark.
  • It's got a cracking atmosphere, especially with the cosy fireplace in winter and a spacious beer garden for sunny summer evenings.
  • Family and dog friendly vibes make it a welcoming spot for all, perfect if you're out with little ones or your furry mate.
  • Service is generally quick and efficient, and they often have live music on weekends to liven things up.
  • The food's a solid option, particularly the pizzas which are delicious, quick to arrive, and offer great value for the portion sizes.
Cons
  • The menu is a bit limited, so it might not cover everyone's tastes or cravings.
  • Prices are on the higher side, which feels typical for Cambridge but can sting a little.
  • Service gets the job done promptly, but it's not always the friendliest – you might miss out on those warm smiles.
  • The place can feel a tad grubby and sticky in spots, like it could do with a thorough clean to freshen it up.
  • It has that family-oriented feel which, while lovely for some, might dampen the vibe if you're after a more relaxed, adults-only pub experience.

The beer is excellent and the food is average to good, taking 2nds place in priority; constructively limited menu that covers most tastes. Rather pricey but typical Cambridge. Service is prompt but don't expect smiles. A little grubby and sticky; could do with major clean. The biggest let-down is that it gets too busy due to lack of decent North Cambridge pubbage. Very noisy sometimes with all of the hard surfaces and minimalist Milton Brewery aesthetic. Plenty of outdoors seating though in good weather.

Love the fires here on a winter's evening, and huge beer garden (repurposed car park) for summer night. Family and dog friendly, which kills the vibe of the place for me, but if you have/like those things, this is the place for you!

This is my local pub in England. It is a nice place, with a fireplace that is often lit in the cold months. Slightly rustic, with bare wood tabletops. Generally good ambiance, and live music by local and visiting bands in the weekends. The short menu is Italian/British, with authentic enough stone-baked pizzas and a good calzone.

If you want good beer, great bar crew, awesome people and a great environment, this is your groove. The entire team was awesome, but props to Bob! Tell them the guy from Panama sent you.

Absolutely delicious. I've been coming for years and the pizza is ALWAYS the highlight of the day. It's delicious and very quickly served, pizzas are about £14 each and are well worth the value of portions size! The atmosphere is great with games and a bar and books for people, seating inside and out is great as well as parking spots and bike racks! Staff are always nice and if your foods not really fast or your food has a problem etc they always come out personally to apologise. Very sweet people. Make sure you go here hungry!!
