About This Pub

Ah, The Green Dragon – it's one of those pubs that just warms your heart the moment you step in. Nestled right by the river Cam, it's got this magical beer garden where you can unwind with a pint of excellent cask ale or a crisp cider, and the views are simply breathtaking, especially when the rowing boats glide by. The staff are an absolute treat, always chatting away and making sure everyone's looked after, which really adds to that homely feel. And the food? Well, it's a fun twist on what you'd expect, with fresh Lebanese dishes that are packed with flavour and beautifully done – I mean, who knew loaded fries could be such a hit? But let's keep it real; it's shut on Mondays, so no impromptu visits then, and if you're craving straightforward British pub fare, the Middle Eastern vibe might catch you off guard. Plus, with its prime spot, it does get crowded during big events, and the later opening times aren't always convenient. Overall, though, it's a cracking spot for a catch-up with mates or a family day out, and with that solid 4.2 rating, it's clear most folks leave with a smile – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in Cambridge and after a bit of character and charm.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The riverside location is absolutely stunning, with a picturesque beer garden right by the Cam – perfect for soaking up the sun and watching the rowing action.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and helpful recommendations, making you feel right at home.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of cask ales and drinks, including gems like Aspall cider, which really hits the spot.
  • The food is a delightful surprise, with delicious Lebanese street food options that are fresh, tasty, and well-presented – think loaded fries and falafel that leave you wanting more.
  • It's got that cosy, historic charm with a fireplace and a great atmosphere, ideal for a relaxed evening or even family outings with kids playing by the river.
Cons
  • It's closed on Mondays, which can be a bit of a letdown if you're planning a mid-week visit and fancy a pint.
  • The food focuses on Lebanese street food rather than traditional pub grub, so if you're after classic fish and chips, it might not quite hit the mark.
  • Opening hours can vary and start a bit late on some days, like not until 4pm on weekdays, which means it's not always ideal for a quick lunch.
  • With its popularity, especially during events like the May Bumps, it can get quite busy, making it tricky to find a spot on peak days.

My new favourite pub in Cambridge! Alexander the barkeep was incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful when we came in. Their on tap selection is fantastic, the Aspall was an amazing dry cider. The star of the show was both their incredible location right on the river Cam with beautiful riverside outdoor seating, along with incredible historical and cozy inside seating as well. It's so lovely that it inspired Tolkien to include it in the lord of the rings books. I was similarly inspired by the wonderful service, staff, location, drinks, and food. The food is almost beating out the location for how amazing it is. I ordered the loaded fries, and dear lord have I not had such good, crispy, salty fries in such a while. It was loaded with chicken, pomegranate seeds, greens, and everything else you could ask for. It worked so well and I'm so happy I tried it, I'll definitely be back to eat it many more times! Thanks again to Alexander and the rest of the staff for creating such a welcoming wonderful atmosphere.

We were surprised to find that the food was only Lebanese street food, but there was a fantastic choice and the food itself was delicious. We had the chicken schwarma loaded fries which were amazing and really nicely presented. The atmosphere inside the pub was great and felt like how a good local pub should be. It's also great that this pub has lots of history, which makes it a very interesting building.

Superb pub for drinks and food! We booked a table here for dinner for a group including three children. The kids loved playing outside by the river whilst we enjoyed the ambience of a proper country (ok, semi rural) pub. The Lebanese food was terrific, the local bitter on draught was excellent and the staff were terrific. We had a thoroughly nice evening, staying to drink and play board games with the children after dinner. The prices are very reasonable too! Highly recommended!!!

Easily the best pub in the east of Cambridge. They have an amazing beer garden on the cam with staff constantly bussing tables. The food is amazing its a blend of pub food and Turkish food done really well, they also have an amazing Sunday roust highly recommend going. The staff always look allittle grumpy but they are actually very friendly. The one down side is the beer selection is not that big.
