About This Pub
Ah, The Harrow in Aylesbury – it's one of those pubs that has a lot going for it, but like any good chat over a pint, it's got its ups and downs. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are absolute gems; they're attentive and make you feel right at home, which is perfect for a relaxed evening out. The interior's got this charming, eclectic mix of modern and retro furnishings that gives it a unique, welcoming vibe, and they've got some cracking beer on tap along with fresh grub like burgers that actually taste homemade. It's no wonder folks have fond memories of events there, like engagement parties that went off without a hitch. On the flip side, though, a recent spruce-up hasn't quite hit the mark for everyone – some say it's turned a bit dark and unwelcoming, which could dampen the mood on a rainy day. Then there's the food, which isn't always a winner; complaints about oily, bland dishes mean you might want to stick to the safer options or just go for drinks. And service can be hit or miss, with a few tales of drinks not being served quite right. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're in the area, especially for a casual catch-up, but I'd say go in with an open mind and maybe check the menu first to make the most of it.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are really friendly and attentive, making you feel welcome right from the off – it's like chatting with mates behind the bar.
-
It's got a quirky, modern interior with a mix of 60s and 70s vibes that adds a fun, nostalgic touch to the atmosphere.
-
They serve up decent beer that's in good form, and some fresh food options like burgers that come out pink and tasty, which is a nice surprise for a pub.
Cons
-
Recent refurbishments haven't lived up to the hype, with the place feeling a bit dark and dingy, which might put you off if you're after a brighter spot.
-
Food can be inconsistent – some dishes like the chicken come out oily and lacking in flavour, so it's worth being picky with your order.
-
Service has had a few slip-ups, like getting gin in a wine glass without ice, which just doesn't hit the mark for a proper drink.

Recent Reviews
Recently refurbished so I was excited to visit but it was such a disappointment.
Very dark and dingy, we were served by a man who was wearing his coat, had no gin glasses and offered them in a wine glass - so I suggested a tumbler would be better. First time in my life being served a gnt without ice and lemon, not even offered.
He gave us doubles even though we didn't ask for doubles and didn't tell us the price, just pointed the card machine at us after taking ages to find the items on the till.
We felt like an inconvenience rather than welcomed customers.
Hence, 1 star for service.
We sat outside as heavy metal music was being played.
We found the garden to be littered with wet tissues, ash trays full of water and soggy cigarette butts. The whole place was covered in bird poo.
It all just felt unloved and soulless.
Then we went to the toilets...broken seats.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's closed down within the year.
Gutted as there aren't many great drinking pubs in Aylesbury and this used to be one of them!
It was a nice pub but the food is not of my taste. We ordered calamari and breaded chicken. Calamari was ok but that chicken was just too oily and tasteless. No seasoning whatsoever. It was like as if you cut the chicken, put some breadcrumbs and straight in the oil to deep fry. Never again going there for food. For beef eaters, there are choices which i can't comment on as never tried.
On my visit to the pub it was relatively quiet being a Tuesday evening . Nevertheless the staff were pleasant and attentive and my chosen beer was in good form! The interior of the pub is modern contemporary with a mishmash of furniture and furnishings from the 60s/70s. Very pleasing. The music is also very retro, and at the time I was there appeared to be pleasant mix of Northern Soul. All in all a pleasing distraction for the hour or so I spent there. Well worth a visit. I should note that the food I saw being served looked very enticing also, should you be a fan of burgers!
Really friendly staff and great service. A nice looking menu, difficult to choose. For a pub, I wasn't expecting fresh burgers cooked pink. Decent!
Sorry for the late review. We had our engagement party here back in July 2017 and it was excellent. A great pub and very quirky. Still my favourite pub in the area. We were catered for by the Harrow and the food was excellent. We had a singer in the garden and were also given the garden bar area at the back which was finished just in time for our party. Location is superb and felt we were obsessed over and got more than what we asked for. If you are planning a party then this is a fantastic place to have it. Thank you to the team for such a great evening
