About This Pub

Ah, The Half Moon in Rayleigh – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks really rave about the lively atmosphere; it's spot on for watching sports or enjoying live music, and the drinks selection is top-notch with everything from real ales to cocktails. The staff are dead friendly, always up for a chat, and it's great that they welcome dogs and have that beer garden for a bit of fresh air. But, to keep it real, it's not all perfect – no food on offer means you might need to pop out for a snack, and the toilets are a bit past their best, with some reviews mentioning they're tatty and not the cleanest. Overall, if you're after a solid night out with mates, it's worth a visit, but maybe plan around those niggles for a smoother experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's a proper British pub where you can relax and enjoy a great vibe, especially during live music or sporting events.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of drinks, including real ale, cocktails, and a good range of beers that really hit the spot.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out with your furry friend, and the beer garden is a lovely spot for a pint, rain or shine.
  • Free Wi-Fi is a nice touch, and they show loads of live sports, so it's perfect for catching the game with mates.
Cons
  • They don't serve food, which is a bit of a shame if you're looking for a bite to eat alongside your drink.
  • The toilets could do with some updating – the ladies' ones are a tad tatty with broken seats, and the men's can be a bit whiffy, which puts a damper on things.
  • Sometimes areas might feel a bit squeezed during events or private functions, so it could get cosy in a not-so-great way.

Nice oldy worldy pub, nice bar staff, only downside was the ladies toilet's could do with an upgrade as tatty and had broken seats, and passing the men's loo's the door was wide open and smelt strongly of urine.

Proper pub! Great atmosphere, excellent selection of drinks. Warm welcome and not too hasty in kicking out at the end of the night! Never had a bad night out here.

We popped in on Saturday night to get a feel for the place before we play here in March. The lounge was shut off as there was a private function but that was better for the band as it was a squeeze and people were into it. Great service, good selection of drinks and a great atmosphere for live music. Looking forward to our gig here. Update: We had two great gigs now, great friendly crowd that were really up for a good time. What a pub!

I love this public house. The staff are so friendly. The refurbishment has been very successful. I rarely go to pubs but if i do, this is my favourite. X
