About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The George – it's this lovely spot tucked away in the Leicestershire countryside, and from what folks are saying, it's got that perfect mix of traditional British pub vibes with a fresh twist. I mean, the food is spot on; people rave about the freshly made dishes like the crayfish cocktail, ribeye steak, and even a cracking lasagne, all prepared with care using local ingredients. And the staff? They're an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really elevates the whole experience. The atmosphere is another highlight – imagine sitting in a historic building with artwork from the likes of George Beaumont on the walls, overlooking beautiful green fields from the beer garden. It's ideal for a casual get-together or a nice meal with friends. On the flip side, though, the hours can be a tad restrictive, often wrapping up by early evening, so if you're planning a night out, you might need to get there earlier. Plus, it's popular, so booking ahead is a smart move to avoid disappointment. All in all, it's a solid choice for a great pub day out – the positives far outweigh the niggles, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely top-notch – freshly cooked with locally sourced ingredients, and from what I've heard, dishes like the ribeye steak and lasagne are real winners that leave you wanting more.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in; they're knowledgeable about the menu and add a fun, genuine touch to the experience.
-
It's got such a charming atmosphere with historical artwork on the walls and stunning views of the Leicestershire countryside from the garden and patio – perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening.
-
The pub's location in a quaint village makes it a lovely spot to unwind, and with a high overall rating, it's clear it's a favourite among locals and visitors alike.
Cons
-
The opening hours seem a bit limited, typically from around 2 PM to 7 PM, which might not suit everyone if you're after a late-night pint or meal.
-
It can get quite busy, so reservations are recommended – if you turn up without booking, you might miss out, especially on popular days.
-
From the info available, the pub's status is listed as 'close', which is a bit confusing; it could mean it's not always open when you'd expect, so it's worth double-checking before heading over.

A group of four of us visited to eat last night. What an absolutely brilliant evening. The pub is beautiful inside, and the draught Bass perfect.
They have some of the best staff we've ever found in a British pub. Fun, friendly and helpful.
We could have eaten anything from the menu, but the beef Kibab starter and fish & chips main we ordered were brilliant. Generous portions, hot, tasty beautifully presented. I personally opted for the rum and raisin pavlova sweet, it was excellent.
We will definitely be back and would highly recommend this establishment
Absolutely fantastic second visit. From the word go all the staff were the best hosts i can recall in years. Genuine. Helpful. Friendly - a huge asset to the establishment.
We met friends and were a table of 4 who enjoyed the salmon, chicken risotto, steak ale pie and a traditional fish n chips.
We went straight for mains. Our servers kept us posted on the wait time and were brilliantly attentive throughout.
The food quality and presentation was superb. Absolutely nothing wrong! Fresh produce. Cooked and served to perfection.
Great beers too!
I have to say. On 30 plus year of dining out My dine in experience last night has to be one of if not the best pub dining experiences.
I literally cant wait for the next treat opportunity to return
Price point food quality and portion size were absolutely perfect.
Thankyou all.
What an exceptional meal we had today. The Crayfish/Prawn Cocktail best I’ve had in years. Ribeye cooked perfectly and was surely a few ounces bigger than advertised?! Fish as tasty and meaty as you could hope in an excellent batter. Mango Pavlova almost killed us by its shear volume, but was far too good to be left. But I save the best till last …… the staff, they were an absolute credit to the management, attentive, friendly and responsive. Great afternoon out thank you !
I've been wanting to try the George for a while but not being able to. Finally, we got in, and WOW, what a place, the decor inside is so inviting and comfortable.
The food was incredible (see pics) with all of the staff being very friendly and knowledgeable about their menu.
We will be back to try the Sunday roast next. Keep up the good work! 👍
Beautiful place to eat, drink and socialise. We had been away working and found this online. Booked a table for dinner. Staff very friendly and locals alike. So welcoming, chatting to us when they heard we where not from around there. Food was so delicious. It has to be one of the best lasagne’s I have ever had. (I eat a lot of lasagne) beer was fresh and the whole evening was great. Lovely settings and I would highly recommend.
