About This Pub
Ah, The George – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its welcoming vibe, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, the bar staff are absolute stars, always up for a laugh and making newcomers feel like regulars. It's got that classic community feel, perfect for a casual evening with mates or just nipping in for a quiet drink. Plus, they've been spot on with health and safety stuff, which is a big tick in my book these days. But, and I say this with a bit of honesty, it's not without its flaws. The place looks like it hasn't had a makeover in years, so it might not be the most inviting spot visually – imagine worn-out decor that could use a good spruce-up to keep things fresh. Then there's this no-tech policy; it's meant to foster conversation, but it can feel a tad overbearing if you're used to checking your phone, and some folks have mentioned getting the odd dirty look for it. Oh, and the beer? Well, it's alright, but compared to the pub next door, it doesn't quite hit the mark for those who are picky about their pints. All in all, if you're after a straightforward, friendly local haunt without the frills, give it a go – just keep your expectations in check and maybe pair it with a visit to a nearby spot for variety.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's a great spot for locals looking for that community vibe, where you can pop in for a chat and a pint.
-
They've got a good handle on keeping things safe and proper, like with Covid rules, which is reassuring these days.
Cons
-
The place could really do with a freshen-up; it's feeling a bit dated and in need of a proper revamp to liven it up.
-
Their no-tech policy might put some off – it's meant to encourage chat, but it can come across as a bit stern if your phone rings.
-
The beer selection isn't the best in the area; there are better options nearby, so it might not satisfy the real ale enthusiasts.

Very friendly and great bar staff but needs a massive revamp and Face lift. Did enjoy our evening though.
Do not confuse their no tech policy with friendliness. You can easily be sat alone with no one to talk to and they will give you dirty looks if your phone rings. Their no swearing policy carries less weight especially if it comes to ethnic related vulgarities. Cult vibes. Scattered books depict a day gone by. On the other hand it was warm and they had soap in the mens
Unfortunately, this pub is not the best in the area at all. I would avoid it big style. The handpulled beer is not very good at all especially when you compare it with the black horse which is next door which offers amazing beers I personally haven’t been this pub for a very very long time, it’s a big shame because it could be amazing
Went for a visit as its local ,great friendly pub ,will be our regular now ,owners and his family made us feel likewehave been going for years
Top pub, friendly with a good understanding of Covid rules
