About This Pub

Ah, The General Eliott – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away by the canal in Uxbridge. I have to say, what really stands out is how cosy and inviting it is inside, with that open coal fire making winter visits extra snug, and the outdoor seating offering stunning views for when the weather's on your side. The food's a real highlight too; their home-cooked meals and breakfasts are tasty and well-priced, and don't forget the nice touch of discounts for the over-60s – it's those little things that make you feel looked after. Plus, being pet-friendly and having a children's area means it's spot on for family outings or a casual meet-up with mates. On the flip side, though, the food service times are a bit restricted, so you might find yourself missing out if you arrive too late, and it does get bustling on busier days, which could mean a wait for your favourite spot. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed afternoon or evening, and I'd recommend giving it a go if you're in the area – just keep an eye on those opening hours to make the most of it!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location right by the Grand Union Canal is absolutely charming, with lovely outdoor seating and views that make it perfect for a relaxing pint on a sunny day.
  • It's a cosy, family-run spot with a welcoming atmosphere, including an open coal fire for those chilly evenings and a children's play area that makes it great for families.
  • The food is spot on – think delicious home-cooked meals and excellent breakfasts at reasonable prices, plus perks like a 30% discount for over 60s.
  • Friendly staff and top-notch service really add to the vibe, along with live entertainment that keeps things lively without being overwhelming.
Cons
  • Food service hours can be a bit limited, so you might need to plan around them if you're popping in for a meal outside the main times.
  • It can get quite busy at peak times, which might mean waits for tables or drinks, especially with its popularity among locals.
  • The overall setup feels a tad traditional, so if you're after something more modern or trendy, it might not quite hit the mark.

Popped into The General Eliott for a pint on a rainy day a few weeks ago around Easter. The location is great - right next to the Union Canal with a lovely view, and there’s convenient parking nearby. The atmosphere inside was cosy and inviting, and the outdoor seating overlooking the canal would be ideal on a sunny day. Service was quick but not particularly friendly. The bartender didn’t smile or make eye contact, which was a shame considering it wasn’t crowded. We only had a pint of Guinness, which was nicely poured and enjoyable. Didn’t try the food this time, but I’d be happy to come back and give it a go. They also have an events calendar with live music, quizzes, etc. A good spot overall with potential for a better experience with just a bit more attention to detail.

Nice canal-side pub. Seating outside at the back and a small car park. Food is good and friendly staff. Breakfast is excellent and well priced. Much better than what is on Uxbridge high street. Still the best breakfast (after 12pm) and now with a loyalty scheme!

Recent: they often have bread and cheese you can help yourself to. It really takes the edge of if youre drinking in the afternoon! Good, traditional pub with sensibly priced food. I'd go again. Here I am again! Excellent home cooked food, I was very impressed with their gravy...and you can have as much as you like. Not some tiny ornate jug which hardly wets your plate. ...and again!

Visited on a Saturday afternoon after a walk along the towpath. Beer 🍻 and wine nice and cold. Sat outside in the beer garden which was lovely as it was in the shade rather than the sun. Food was plentiful and tasty. Service was excellent too. Thanks for hospitality.

Lovely little pub on the canal. Not visited for years but took the parents while I was back in the area. We went for lunch and the food was good pub food. Lots of outdoor seating when the weather is nice with a little children's area. There is a fence to keep the children safe from the water. I reasonable prices and have a car park so you don't have to try find somewhere outside as most of the surrounding area is permits. Will visit again. The pub was clean and the staff were lovely and friendly.
