About This Pub
Ah, The Free Trade Tavern, what a gem it is in the heart of Rochdale. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really nails that perfect balance of traditional charm and a modern, easy-going feel. You'll love how the staff go out of their way to make newcomers feel right at home, and the quiz nights are an absolute riot – think free grub and a bit of friendly competition that keeps things entertaining. The beer garden is a highlight on a sunny day, offering a peaceful spot to unwind, and it's conveniently placed near a play area, which makes it ideal if you're out with the family. On the flip side, though, it's not without its quirks; the interior can get a bit snug when the crowd builds up, and while most rave about the beers, there are a few tales of inconsistent quality that might leave you wanting more. Overall, it's a welcoming spot that's worth a visit for a laid-back evening, but keep in mind it shines brightest on event nights or when the weather's playing ball. If you're after a proper local haunt without the pretence, this one's got your name on it.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is wonderfully welcoming and relaxed, making it feel like a true locals' spot where everyone gets a warm greeting.
-
They've got a cracking beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun with a cold pint in hand.
-
Quiz nights and events like bingo add a fun twist, and there's even free food sometimes, which is a lovely bonus.
-
The beer selection is spot on, with well-kept real ales and ice-cold options that hit the spot every time.
-
It's family-friendly, right next to a children's play area, so it's great for a casual outing with the little ones.
Cons
-
The inside space is a bit on the small side, so it can feel cosy to the point of being cramped when it's busy.
-
Beer quality isn't always consistent – one chap mentioned it wasn't up to scratch, which might put you off if you're picky.
-
The atmosphere can be hit or miss; it's lively on quiz nights, but otherwise, it might feel a tad quiet for those seeking a buzz.

Just a really good pub. Food way above average. Burger I had just now was delicious and the real ale well kept. Highly recommended.
Only had a couple of pints no atmosphere at all and the beer wasn't good
I stayed in the premier inn across the road and decided to pop over, what a great pub atmosphere was great (it was a Thursday and quiz night) half way through the quiz food was served at no cost and some fun games as well during the quiz, I had a great night and if I lived locally this would be my local. The landlord/landlady were great host's and I take my hat off to them for putting in the effort, because so many places just don't bother these days......well done !!

This is a lovely pub that has the bonus of being located next to a children's play area. The pub is traditional but modern. It gas a chilled and relaxed vibe. Definitely a locals pub, but the landlord makes everyone feel welcome. Lovely ice cold beers 🍻 definitely worth a visit ⭐⭐⭐⭐
