About This Pub
Ah, The Fox in Pirton – it's one of those classic pubs that just feels like a proper British hideaway, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this inviting atmosphere with an open fire that makes you want to settle in for the evening, and the staff are absolute gems, always ready with a smile and a chat. The drinks selection is spot on, and when the kitchen's firing on all cylinders, the food sounds brilliant – think melt-in-your-mouth roasts and generous portions that leave you satisfied. It's especially nice for a group of mates out for a walk, as they really roll out the welcome mat. But, fair's fair, it's not without its downsides; sometimes the kitchen's out of action for refurb work, so you might end up just having a drink instead of a bite. The hours can be a tad limited too, typically kicking off around teatime and closing early, and it's shut one day a week, which could be a nuisance if you're planning a spontaneous trip. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, but maybe check ahead to avoid any surprises.
Pros and Cons

The staff are incredibly friendly and always make you feel welcome, whether you're a local or just passing through.
-
It has a lovely traditional atmosphere with an open fire, perfect for a cosy chat and a pint on a chilly evening.
-
There's a good range of drinks on offer, and when the kitchen's up and running, the food like roast beef or Sunday lunches gets rave reviews for being hearty and well-cooked.
-
It's a great spot for walkers and groups, with that welcoming village pub vibe that makes you want to linger.
Cons
-
The kitchen can be closed at times for refurbishments, so you might miss out on food if you're hoping for a full meal.
-
Operating hours seem a bit patchy, often starting in the afternoon and wrapping up early, which isn't ideal if you're after a late-night spot.
-
It's closed one day a week, and with varying schedules, it might not always be open when you fancy a quick visit.

A traditional pub with a lovely atmosphere. There's a good range of drinks and a open fire.
We were a group of walkers and were welcome d with open arms.
The lady serving was very friendly. No food was being served as the kitchen was being refurbished. It wasn't busy at the time but the atmosphere was nice and felt welcome. Will go back to dine once kitchen opens.
A much needed recently refurbished village pub that has had an internal & external makeover. Come the spring of 2022, the pub garden will also have a makeover.
This a popular pub that not only for the locals, but for passing cyclists, hikers/ramblers, dog walkers and visitors to Pirton village.
Great pub, great staff, great atmosphere. I love it. I had roast beef, and it fell apart in my mouth. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and I throughly enjoyed it all. Dessert was amazing to. Quick polite service. Will be recommending and certainly coming back for more 10/10
Another rural gem of a pub. A party of 5 walked from Hitchin in order to sample the Sunday lunch and we weren't disappointed. A good solid, unfussy lunch with great roast spuds and big sharing platters of veg all served with a smile. The lovely staff couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. It was also an absolute bargain to boot. Recommended.
