About This Pub

Ah, The Four Crossroads Inn – it's one of those pubs that really warms the cockles of your heart when it gets things right. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the food is a standout; the Sunday carvery and Thursday steak nights are proper treats, with everything cooked just how you'd want it – juicy steaks on coals and all that. It's got this great mix of classic pub grub alongside fun twists like the Saturday hog roast or Friday Indian buffet, which means there's always something new to try with your mates. The staff usually add to the charm, being helpful and kind, creating that homely feel in this old 1850s spot. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; I've heard a few tales of service letting the side down, like when someone had a run-in with rude staff or when the music was blasting a bit too loud, making it tricky to enjoy a quiet natter. And occasionally, the food doesn't quite live up to the hype, with gripes about oily dishes that leave you wishing for better consistency. Still, with its solid overall vibe and that high rating floating about, it's worth a visit if you're in Boston – just go in with an open mind and maybe pick a quieter night for the best experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, especially the Sunday carvery and Thursday steak nights – it's all cooked to perfection and really hits the spot for a hearty meal.
  • Staff are generally lovely and helpful, making you feel welcome from the moment you walk in, which adds to that cosy pub charm.
  • There's a brilliant variety of options with themed nights like the hog roast on Saturdays and an Indian buffet on Fridays – something to suit all tastes and keep things exciting.
  • The atmosphere in this historic 1850s pub is just delightful, with great use of space that makes it feel inviting for catching up with mates over a pint.
Cons
  • Service can sometimes fall short, with a few reports of staff being a bit abrupt or not handling complaints as smoothly as you'd hope.
  • The music might get too loud in certain areas, which could disrupt a relaxed evening and make it harder to chat.
  • Food quality isn't always consistent; for instance, some dishes like fish and chips have been described as overly oily and not quite up to par.
  • It seems like the place can get a bit hit-or-miss on busier nights, so you might not always get the seamless experience you'd expect.

Went for the first time with family. I've been meaning to go for a while and finally had the Carvery on the Sunday. Amazing food, amazing staff, helpful, kind and the food was just lovely. We will definitely be returning!

My husband and I went to the Fourcross Roads last Saturday evening and we were throughly disappointed with everything there. We arrived on time and were seated in the sml room to the side , the music was really loud through the speaker and when asked it was turned down, but a few mins later someone turned if up again, the decor in this part of the pub is very dated and needs attention. The menus we were given were stained and crumpled.we ordered our food, just 2 sizzlers, and waited for it to come, after 40 mins I asked how much longer it was going to be, a Indian lady went to check and we were told it still hadn't been cooked and we were next, 15 mins later we finally got our food which was supposed to be a king prawn sizzler and a beef sizzler both with creamy garlic sauce, mushrooms, onions peppers and mixed veg, mix of rice and chips. Firstly the hot plates were so hot that the sauce had stuck to the bottom, the mix of veg was very dissapointing, lots of onion and 2 bits of mushroom, prawns were juicy but tasteless, my husbands beef was plain and chewy, rice was bland and chips were too chunky and overcooked, the sauce was more like plain cream and very little garlic if any was in it. When we went to pay the bar was soaking wet on one side so we went round the other, this was covered in plates, glasses and half filled cups of tea or coffee, it seems they had a party outside and none of this had been cleared away as the barman preceeded to ignore us and talk over our heads to a young man about clearing other things outside, eventually he took notice of us and as he got our bill asked if everything was ok my husband then told him it was the worst meal we have ever had there, he then said they were short staffed, poor excuse really for bad service and food, why do outside catering and not have enough staff to look after your restaurant customers, we also think the very wet bar and dirty crockery on it didn't look very good ! We have been to this pub several times before and mostly had a good experience, maybe it was just a bad day, but it's definitely put us off going back there in the future.

Never again! My fish was covered in oil which must have been dirty as the batter was so brown and not golden. Then had to explain to a young lady who was quite rude and didn't understand why I ate the fish inside the batter but not the batter, all I wanted was the BILL.

I went to the Four Crossroads with my wife, after my dad had recommended them. My dad has had multiple visits and told me about their steak night (Thursdays) and how nice the place is, and he was not wrong! The atmosphere is pleasant and they have made great use of the space available for seating/dining. The staff we spoke to during our visit were friendly, polite and happy. I ordered a steak which was cooked beautifully and I have to say, their peppercorn sauce is amazing! Possibly the best I have had in a very long time! It was mine and my wifes first visit but it will definitely not be our last! (Especially after hearing how good the carvery is!) 100% recommend.

I'll start with Steak night as its earliest in the week. I called in the morning and managed to order a tomahawk steak! It was perfectly cooked and just so much food! My wife and son opted for the ribeye, their food was also cooked to perfection, you can tell the steak is cooked on coals 🤤 The curry nights on Fridays are great. The flavours are a lot different for your average curry house and all you can eat. I've been twice and can't manage to finish a 3rd plate... but I feel like this is a challenge 😂 Saving the best till last. The Sunday carvery is the best I've ever had! The servings are huge! The meat is always well cooked, especially the beef 😋 🤤 the veg is always great. Our friends are vegetarian and we're impressed thst with their vegi option they also got vegi gravy. My only complaint would be that there's never room for dessert 😂
