About This Pub

You know, chatting about The Ferry Hotel feels like recommending a favourite local haunt – it's that kind of place where you pop in for a relaxed meal and end up having a proper good time. They've nailed the food side of things, with their carvery roasts and fresh pizzas being real crowd-pleasers, and the prices are spot on for everyday treats, especially with those daily deals and the rewards app that lets you earn free mains. The team behind the bar and in the kitchen are just lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to the welcoming feel. It's perfect for catching up with mates or a family outing, and I love how they're involved in the community, supporting local charities. On the flip side, it does get packed out, particularly for Sunday lunches, so booking ahead is a must to avoid hanging about. And while most dishes hit the mark, there have been a few grumbles about things like desserts not being up to scratch, so it might not be flawless every time. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after good grub and a friendly atmosphere without the fuss – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot-on, with standout carvery roasts and fresh stone-baked pizzas that leave you wanting more.
  • The staff are a real delight – friendly, efficient, and full of personality, making every visit feel warm and welcoming.
  • It's brilliant value for money, with daily deals like 50% off pizzas, all-you-can-eat breakfasts, and a rewards app for freebies.
  • They've got a family-friendly vibe, offering plenty of options for veggies, vegans, and kids, plus it's open from early morning to late evening.
  • The overall atmosphere is relaxed and community-focused, with efforts to support local charities, which adds a nice touch.
Cons
  • It can get incredibly busy, especially on Sundays, so you'll definitely need to book ahead to snag a table.
  • There might be the occasional hiccup with food, like desserts not being quite right, as one person mentioned frozen bits in a Rocky Road.
  • While the service is generally great, it could feel a bit rushed during peak times, so patience might be needed.

Can't speak for the sit-down service as I've not tried it, but I got a takeaway from here and it was excellent. It was easy to order online and the pickup was straightforward. I ordered a carvery calzone - it was freshly cooked (had to wait a few mins to pick up as it was still in the oven) and very tasty (basically a whole load of roast meat in a calzone with added gravy). Be warned they're absolutely enormous so it you may end up having half of it for breakfast! But it was very nice and I'd certainly have one again.

The young man working tonight, unsure of his name but young with blonde hair I think was lovely. We were sat upstairs in the booth next to another family and he spoke to both very confidently and friendly. His attitude and personality was very friendly and bubbly. Before we left we were tidying up and he told us not to worry and he wouldn’t mind tidying up for us.From what he was saying it sounded like he likes his work and was talking to us about the too good to go app. He brought my daughter some crayons and colouring sheet without asking. Last few times we’ve been I’ve always noticed the nice staff most of the time it’s either been Molly or the gentleman I think is the manager. But the attitude of our server tonight was even above we’ve previously experienced from the ferry. Drinks and food all was fast and good. Would love for this review to be passed on to him as customers really do notice and seems like he is a good part to the team! :)

Went for a Sunday carvery and wasn't disappointed. Booked in for 1pm. I arrived, and the service was great, and the table was waiting for me, clean and prepped. Paid just under £15 for a large carvery. I was very hungry, so I went all out. I chose turkey and roast gammon. The quality was great, though I couldn't finish it all. I only left a little. I will definitely go back and would recommend it to anyone who's hungry 👍

Dane Matty and Leah for service was like lightning mcqueen. Put my order for in and it was in front of me like the speed of light. Amazing servings. Me and my friend all rate the Ferry. Nathan was a fab on pizzas also, tasted divine. Ate it all so quick couldn’t get enough. Chips were good aswell.

Sunday lunch carvery, it was busy as expected - definitely need to book a table. Reasonable customer service, roast dinner was nice enough but granddaughter's Rocky Road dessert had frozen marshmallows in that could break your teeth (all got picked out of the dessert). Apple pie was OK but pastry was a bit soft. Needs more toilets for such a busy place
