About This Pub

Ah, the Owl & Pussycat – it's one of those pubs that really hits the mark for a relaxed get-together with the family or mates, especially if you're in Barrow-in-Furness and looking for something straightforward and budget-friendly. I love how they've nailed the family aspect with things like indoor play zones and plenty of space for kids to let off steam, making it a go-to for parents who want a bite without the stress. The food's a highlight too; it's hearty, comes out quickly, and at prices that won't break the bank – think deals where you can fill up for just a tenner. Plus, the staff are usually brilliant, full of cheer and eager to help, which adds a nice touch to the whole experience. On the flip side, though, it can get quite buzzy and loud, almost like a playground on steroids, so if you're hoping for a serene evening with a quiet chat, you might find it a bit overwhelming. And let's be honest, there are times when service drags, especially at the bar when it's heaving, or little annoyances like sorting your own cutlery pop up. Overall, it's a solid choice for what it sets out to be – a fun, affordable spot – but it's worth keeping in mind those busier moments if you're planning a visit. I'd say give it a go if you're up for a lively atmosphere, but maybe steer clear if you're after something more low-key.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is spot on – affordable, piping hot, and served with a smile, making it a real treat for a casual meal out.
  • It's brilliantly family-friendly with indoor play areas and plenty of space for little ones, plus facilities like WiFi and a car park that make visits hassle-free.
  • The service is generally cheerful and quick, with staff going the extra mile to ensure everyone has a good time, especially for families and groups.
  • They've got some cracking deals, like tucking into meals for just a tenner, and a solid selection of drinks that cater to all tastes.
  • Being in the heart of Barrow-in-Furness, it's conveniently placed near local attractions, perfect for rounding off a day out.
Cons
  • It can get a bit lively and noisy, more like a nursery at times, so it's not the best spot if you're after a peaceful, quiet pint.
  • Service might slow down during busy periods, like queues for drinks when it's packed, which can be a tad frustrating.
  • There are occasional minor niggles, such as having to fetch your own cutlery, which feels a bit underwhelming for the effort.
  • Food quality can vary a little, so while it's generally good value, you might hit a off day now and then.

I’m not saying this is the best restaurant in the world, but I’m really impressed for the price. I’ve eaten here quite a few times now. Always lovely food, served quickly, cheerfully, and piping hot. I’ll be coming back.

Great service today for me, my partner and our little one, food was great and came quick both the gent and lady that serviced us were fantastic, the lady with glasses and her hair in a bun sorry can't remember her name was amazing thanks for a great experience will definitely be coming back

Think you should bring cutlery out with food. That's my only minor complaint, having to leave the table for cutlery as no one told me I'd have to do this. But the food was good and so was the beer! Would recommend for families, not for a quiet meal. Bit of a nursery

We attended for a party. Catered really well for veggies, the lady running it clearly took great pride in her work and was really lovely. We will definitely be coming back ☺️ Queue for drinks was a little slow but it was busy and one person was working on her own behind the counter so understandable.

Re the owners comment below, i haven't posted a new review just simply a photo update as maps asks for. Original review below, We come here now and then for a quick easy cheap meal with varying results but tonight whoever cooked and sent out the food really needs to be cleaning tables instead, my wife's food was so burnt it was black. She sent it back and it came out ok but missing the veg it went back with. My plate was splattered with oil from my wife's sizzling food which I wasn't bothered about but it's not good. It was actually quite nice in the end. Maybe it's like the rest of the town and the actual chef has gone in BAE with a fancy job title and triple money. Original review You know what your getting it's never going to be fantastic but cheap and quite nice, 5 adult meals and a kids, 5 pints of coke and a fruit shoot £57 a hell of a lot better then brewers fair.
