About This Pub

Ah, The Fat Boar – it's one of those places in Wrexham that really hits the spot for a good night out or a casual lunch. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a real highlight; folks rave about the quality and size of the meals, like that amazing pie or the duck bon bons that have people coming back for more. The drink selection is spot on too – whether you're into a pint of real ale, a fancy cocktail, or even a mocktail if you're driving, they've got you covered in style. The atmosphere feels just right, all relaxed and welcoming, making it easy to drop in for a quick one or settle in for a proper meal. On the flip side, though, service isn't always perfect; a few mates mentioned waiting around for staff to notice them, which can put a bit of a dampener on things, and there were some mixed feelings about specific dishes like the roast dinners. Overall, it's a solid choice for us pub goers looking for a balanced experience – the highs definitely outweigh the lows, and with a strong 4.3 rating from plenty of happy visitors, I'd say it's worth checking out, just keep an eye on those busier times to avoid any hitches.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious pies, sticky sausages, and standout dishes like chicken and waffles that leave you wanting more.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of drinks, from real ales and an extensive wine list to cocktails and a massive range of gins, perfect for a relaxed catch-up.
  • The atmosphere is just lovely; it's stylish, comfortable, and has a welcoming vibe that's great for popping in for a drink or a full meal.
  • Staff are generally friendly and knowledgeable, making you feel right at home, especially during events like bottomless brunches.
  • It's good value for money, with hearty portions and meals that punch above their weight – like a top-notch pie for just £10.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit hit or miss; sometimes you might wait a while for attention and end up heading to the bar yourself.
  • There have been a few gripes with certain dishes, like roast dinners not quite living up to expectations, which could disappoint if you're after a reliable classic.
  • It's unclaimed on Google, so things like updates or responses to feedback might not be as prompt as you'd hope from a well-managed spot.

Thank you so much foe a wonderful afternoon at the Bottomless Brunch! The staff were absolutely fabulous and could not fault the service. Drinks were flowing very well. A great selection of drinks, cocktails & mock tails for us non drinkers. The food was amazing and the chicken and waffles was a favourite all round. The Maitre'd seemed to have had a fab time also and was great on the Karaoke. What a great idea to have Shaggerada as a hostess as she was amazing and very funny! We laughed for the the whole 2 hours! One criticism from us all is that it wasn't long enough! Thank you again and we look forward to seeing what events you have on in the future. A great venue and highly recommended!! All our love The Toybox Girls

We went to this place for a few drinks, and they were really nice. I wish the staff had been a bit more attentive, though. We were sitting for a while and no one even came to ask if we needed anything. In the end, we just walked to the bar to order drinks.

Great stop for lunch. The size of the meals and quality 👌 I'd happily pay more for the meal we received. The pie was one of the best Pies I've had in the UK and it was only £10 for the plate of food. Friendly service and dining in a relaxed atmosphere.

We ate here late on a Sunday afternoon, mainly to get out of the rain and we were hungry. Staff were pleasant and quick at taking orders etc. The building is tastefully decorated and there was a good mix of customers. The good bits! However... We ordered 2x roast dinners and a pint. Unfortunately, both dishes were bland and beige. Veg was soggy and tasteless and the bowl of cauliflower cheese looked and tasted like baby food. Disintegrated cauli in luke warm sauce. The thin, curled up slices of beef were of poor quality and also lacking in flavour. The red cabbage was nice but that's about it. I've been wanting to give the Fat Boar a go for a while but it was really disappointing. We may have been unlucky, maybe it was end of service (the veg at least looked like it had been cooking for some time.) Our plates were cleared but nobody asked how our meals were (maybe they knew the answer already) and we weren't offered sweets, although we would have declined based on the food so far. £31 for 2 mediocre meals isn't something we could recommend and sadly, won't be returning. (The mobile food van at Eagles Meadow afterwards looked and smelled much more inviting. A better option next time.)
