About This Pub

Oh, what a lovely spot The Elephant and Castle is – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper London hideaway, tucked away in Kensington with its historic walls covered in old front pages and tales of royalty. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the food really steals the show; that Sunday roast is a standout, with tender meats, crispy potatoes, and even options to add extras like Yorkshire puds, which had me wishing I was there myself. The fish and chips and sausages with creamy mash sound utterly delicious too, all done with that homely touch you don't always get these days. The team behind the bar are spot on, always up for a friendly natter and making sure everything runs smoothly. On the flip side, it does tend to fill up quickly, especially on weekends, so you might find yourself jostling for space, and if you're not in the mood for hearty pub staples, the menu might feel a tad limited. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone wanting a taste of traditional British pub life without the fuss – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as it's got that timeless appeal that keeps people coming back for more.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant, especially the Sunday roast which comes with juicy meats, perfectly roasted veggies, and those extra Yorkshire puddings that you won't find everywhere else.
  • The staff are so welcoming and friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got that cosy, historic vibe with classic decor and a rich backstory – perfect for a relaxed evening with a pint and some good chat.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, including tasty non-alcoholic beers and ciders, which is spot on if you're driving or just fancy something lighter.
Cons
  • It can get a bit crowded during peak times, so you might have to wait for a table if you're popping in on a busy Sunday.
  • The menu sticks mostly to traditional pub classics, which is charming but might not excite if you're after something more adventurous or modern.

Wonderful staff and food with a great atmosphere, the sausages are delicious with a creamy mash, the added crispy onions add a wonderful finish to the dish

Had a Sunday roast, ocean fish & chips, and ordered extra Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes on the side (something we were not able to find in other pubs!). Everything tasted amazing. We will be back ❤️

Our first time to London, England and first time to this restaurant. We found it to be: relaxing, friendly, good foods, and good service. Prices to us were in the normal range (comparing to London pubs and USA.) We’ve been here a couple of times, each time enjoying our evening. I had the Fish and Chips (excellent!) and their Chicken and Mushroom pie (very good). I highly recommend this pub, whether for food or just to have a social time with friends. This pub had a photo or two of Freddie Mercury enjoying their pub. I see why!

Sunday Roast was amazing… my wife loved the roast beast. I thoroughly enjoyed the roasted nut roll that came with mine. Excellent veggies! Roasted Carrots, parsnips, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding with gravy. They also have a nice assortment of no alcohol beers and ciders… A simple clean comfortable pub. Lovely decorations and history of old Kensington. Order at the bar and be promptly served.

The Elephant & Castle is one of my favourite pubs in London. I love its classic and cozy decor and ambiance. I’m glad it has not fallen victim to the “modernization” obsession. The food is outstanding and of a very high quality. The Sunday roast is one of the best in London. It has a great variety of beers, spirits, and cocktails. I highly recommend the gin-based cocktails. The pub not been discovered by the tourist crowds and I hope it stays that way. The staff is wonderful!
