About This Pub

Ah, The Churchill Arms – what a gem in the heart of Kensington! I've got to say, it's one of those places that just sticks with you, with its facade smothered in blooms and the inside crammed with all sorts of British memorabilia, making every visit feel like a step back in time. The food's a real highlight; their Thai dishes have been impressing people for decades, and paired with a pint of proper ale or a refreshing cider, it's hard not to leave with a smile. The atmosphere is spot on too – it's got that lively, jolly energy that's just infectious, whether you're there for a quick drink or a full meal. On the flip side, though, service can be a bit hit or miss; sometimes the staff are rushed and not as forthcoming with recommendations, which might leave you feeling a tad overlooked in the hustle. And blimey, it does get crowded, so if you're after a leisurely evening, you'd best book in advance to avoid the scramble. All in all, it's a fantastic spot for us pub enthusiasts, offering that perfect blend of tradition and a good time, but just keep those little niggles in mind for the full picture.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely charming, with the pub dripping in flowers outside and packed with fascinating memorabilia inside – it's like stepping into a piece of London's history.
  • They serve up some cracking Thai food that's been wowing folks for over 35 years, alongside a great selection of real ales and ciders that really hit the spot.
  • The vibe is always lively and welcoming, whether it's buzzing with energy during peak times or a bit quieter, making it a top spot for a casual catch-up or a fun night out.
  • It's in a brilliant location in Kensington, easy to get to with buses right outside, and being inexpensive means you can pop in without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • Service can sometimes feel a tad rushed or unhelpful, like when you're after a bit of advice on the menu and it comes across as 'you're on your own' – not always the warmest chat.
  • It gets packed quickly, especially around mealtimes, so you might find yourself in and out without much lingering if it's busy, or needing to book ahead to secure a spot.

I think the food here is always good but it's always a get in and get out mentality. The male server wasn't the most helpful with recommendations and was basically saying it's up to you, it's up to you. Yeah, thanks, I know it's up to me as I'm ordering, some feedback on the food and your opinion would be helpful seeing as you work there! The lady was helpful, sat us down without a reservation, although you'll only get an hour to sit in the restaurant area. That's more than enough though, as food does come out quickly. I had the Thai green curry and a asahi beer 🍻😋 There was a table next to us which was a group of 6 guys which were super noisy, I'm glad the waitress served them quickly and got them to move on as the sound was defining at times. After they left, it was a lot more peaceful. The interior in both the pub and the restaurant is very interesting and it is nice to look at and take pictures in. It does get very busy however so if you want to sit, it may be better to come early or book a table

We only had a drink. I am very fond of cider and enjoyed a very nice Old Mout Cider taste of pinnacle and raspberry. The pub was full around lunch time with a jolly atmosphere. A very nice smell came from the adjacent Thai restaurant serving as well in the bar. It looked very appetising and I would have tried one of their dishes if I hadn't been pressed for time.

When I visited, it was busy and full of energy , definitely a popular spot. The outside is covered in flowers, and the inside is full of old decorations and British memorabilia, which gives it a lot of character. It’s a fun place to stop by, even just for a drink and to enjoy the atmosphere. Would recommend if you’re in Notting Hill!

Did not get any food but the refreshments and atmosphere are top notch. Everything I expect as an American from a British pub. The location in South Kensington is great. Bus stop just outside the premises make it easy to hop on and go where you need to go.

Great food and drink in a spectacular setting, nothing like seeing the whole facade in bloom! Make sure you get a reservation, seating is limited. Having been here both during a quiet hour and a busy spell, can testify that service is unaffected, great both times! Highly recommend the wings and dumplings, and their Pad Kee-Mao is excellent.
