About This Pub

Ah, the Duke of York – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in St Werburgh's, Bristol. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the place really shines with its welcoming staff who go out of their way to make everyone feel at ease, and the pints are spot on, with a great range of cask ales that cater to all tastes without costing a fortune. It's brilliant for a laugh too, with games like the skittles alley turning an ordinary night into something special, especially for birthdays or catching up with friends. The mix of seating areas, including that covered outdoor spot, adds to the charm, creating a lively yet cosy atmosphere where you can chat away with some truly nice people. On the flip side, though, it does tend to close up shop fairly early around 11 PM, so if you're planning a big night out, you might need to factor that in. Plus, their website's a bit of a faff to navigate, which could leave you guessing on the details. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening – honest, it's got that heartwarming feel that makes you want to pop in regularly, but it's worth keeping those little niggles in mind for the full picture.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always welcoming and up for a laugh, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of drinks, like well-kept cask ales in all sorts of styles, and pints at reasonable prices that won't break the bank.
  • Loads of fun games on offer, including a skittles alley that's perfect for a birthday bash or just a casual get-together with mates.
  • The atmosphere is spot on, with a mix of seating areas inside and a covered outdoor space, drawing in lovely folks and creating that real community vibe.
  • It's got a good choice of snacks and drinks, making it easy to settle in for the evening without needing to head elsewhere.
Cons
  • The opening hours can be a bit variable, typically wrapping up around 11 PM, so it's not ideal if you're after a late-night spot.
  • Their website seems a bit tricky to access, which might make it harder to check the latest updates or events before you pop in.
  • While it's inexpensive and laid-back, it might not suit those looking for something a tad more upscale or with a full menu of hearty meals.

Regularly come here with friends and it’s become a birthday favourite to book the skittles alley. The people here are really great, welcoming and the pints are reasonably priced.

Home (pub) from home this place has a way of bringing people together quite unlike any other pub, the guests it attracts are lovely and the locals are truly one of a kind (although there may be a gd few of them). The staff have a wonderfull genuine way of making everyone at home there is always a place for you at the bar.

Always have a decent selection of well kept tasty cask ales. Usually in different styles to suit different tastes. And usually have one of sensible strength for midweek drinking. Great friendly atmosphere.

This is by far one of the best pubs in Bristol. Love every member of staff here, always friendly and up for a giggle. Fantastic selection of drinks at reasonable prices (recommend their £5 Bloody Mary's, just do them a favour and don't order when it's busy!). Duke of York has everything you could want. Want to sit in a cosy outside area? You can. Fancy a game of skittles? Go for it. Game of pool or darts? Sure. The locals and punters create a lovely atmosphere and their snack selection is amazing. So happy to live close to this place and will return happily, many times.
