About This Pub

Ah, the Duke of York – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper British institution, you know? From the moment you step in, you're greeted by that cosy, lived-in atmosphere with wooden floors, old photos on the walls, and a roaring fire that makes you want to settle in for the evening. The food's a real highlight; they've got fresh, quality ingredients turned into hearty classics like steak and ale pie or Sunday roasts that are cooked just right, with a nod to more exotic flavours if you're in the mood. And the staff? They're an absolute delight, always smiling and making sure everything runs smoothly, whether you're there for a quick drink or a full meal with the family. It's got a smashing garden too, ideal for those sunny days when you fancy a bit of outdoor dining. On the flip side, it does get buzzing on weekends, so if you're after somewhere super peaceful, it might not be your best bet, and the traditional setup could feel a tad old-school for those seeking something more contemporary. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out – I'd say pop in for a pint and see for yourself; you might just end up making it your regular spot.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – fresh, well-cooked British classics with a touch of global flair, and portions that leave you nicely satisfied.
  • Service is top-notch; the staff are warm, attentive, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, even if you pop in just before closing.
  • It's got that classic pub charm with wooden floors, open fires, and a lovely garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun on a warm day.
  • Great for groups or families, with outdoor areas and options for private parties, plus fun events like their annual beer festival.
  • They've got a solid selection of cask ales and drinks, and the atmosphere feels like a proper traditional inn that's been lovingly restored.
Cons
  • It can get a bit lively and crowded, especially during peak times or events, which might not suit those after a quiet pint.
  • Being a traditional pub, it might not appeal to everyone if you're looking for something more modern or trendy in vibe.

An excellent pub with Wonderful dining, good portion sizes, well cooked, well presented, great staff, super service, clean toilets, positive welcome.good car park, super outdoor area, nicely cordoned off areas for private parties or where children can have fun but not disturb other customers without children. It really is very very very good Just excellent. What is there to improve? Small things... Checking on clients as they leave just saying thank you good bye or see you next time. Recommending one or two dishes without steering the patrons. If I could give this 6 stars I would!

Morgan was so lovely this evening- he served us even though we came in just before last orders. He was so lovely and accommodating, smile on his face despite the late hours. Love this pub so much and thanks to this lovely staff member we were able to catch up with family even more! X

Went as a group for Sunday Roast, food was excellent and came very quickly, service was also really good and waiting staff were lovely and helpful. The meat was cooked nicely with excellent trimmings and the deserts were really nice too (especially sticky toffee pudding). Swings and a sit on model tractor at the end of the garden kept kids occupied too! - would definitely return

Our experience at the Duke of York pub was truly elevated thanks to the exceptional service provided by Francesca. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure every detail of our evening was perfect. Her warm demeanor and professionalism stood out, and she went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. It’s rare to find such outstanding customer service, and we’ll definitely be returning because of Francesca’s fantastic effort. Highly recommend!

Lovely pub, first visit here with a large group. Welcoming staff who also provided excellent customer service. Good menu, had the steak, ale and mushroom pie which was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The hot drink and mini dessert was popular and they weren't even that mini! Staff were very accommodating.
