About This Pub

Ah, The Green Dragon – what a cracking little find in Barnet! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really shines with its fantastic food; think tender sirloin roasts, scrumptious specials like sea bream, and even a stellar veggie Wellington that had one reviewer over the moon. It's got that homely, laid-back atmosphere where kids, dogs, and muddy boots are all part of the charm, making it feel like a proper friendly local rather than somewhere stuffy. The deals are spot on too – who can resist a two-course lunch for just over a tenner or steak night with buy-one-get-one-free? And let's not forget the beer garden; it's an absolute treat on a nice day, with views that make you forget you're just outside London. On the flip side, it's a bit of a shame it's shut on Mondays, which might throw off your plans if you're mid-week, and there've been a couple of mentions about billing mix-ups, so keep an eye on that receipt. Overall, though, with ratings hovering around 4.4 from heaps of happy visitors, it's clear this spot does a lot right – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're after good food, good company, and that quintessential pub feel without the hassle.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with delicious options like succulent roasts, tasty steaks, and fresh specials that leave you wanting more – it's no wonder folks rave about it.
  • It's a welcoming spot for everyone, including families with kids and even dogs, making it feel like a proper community hub with a relaxed, country-style vibe.
  • They've got some brilliant deals, like a two-course lunch for under £16, steak night with two-for-one, and BYOB on wine Fridays with no corkage – perfect for keeping things affordable and fun.
  • The beer garden is a real gem, offering elegant outdoor seating with lovely views of the fields, ideal for a sunny afternoon pint or a meal al fresco.
  • Service is quick and friendly, with staff going the extra mile, whether it's for a casual visit or hosting events like christenings in their private areas.
Cons
  • It's closed on Mondays (except bank holidays), which might put a damper on mid-week plans if you're looking for a spot to pop into.
  • There have been a few niggles, like the odd billing error, so it's worth double-checking your tab to avoid any surprises at the end of the night.
  • It can get quite busy, especially on Sundays for the roasts, so booking ahead is a must if you don't want to miss out or end up waiting around.

A great place to eat, just 3 mins from South Mims services. Plenty of parking. Staff were welcoming and plenty of seating available. Menu choices were good and service was quick. Food was excellent and portion size good. The only negative thing . Was the bill was not accurate. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Had my son’s christening here in July for around 50 people and it genuinely couldn’t have gone better. Matt and his team were fantastic in the preparation and allowed us to come in before the pub opened to set up the area and put all the flowers out. All the kids had enough space to play in the garden and said we could have bouncy castle if we wanted to. Food was superb with no faults across all guest and very reasonable for two courses on the lunch menu. All in all we had a fantastic time and were very grateful. Some of the guests have already booked to use the pub for another party.

WOW!! Our first time there and definitely not our last. It was an impulse decision and a very good one. We didn’t have a reservation but were lucky enough to get a table. The food, venue and staff are superb. The sea bream special was scrumptious and hope it’s on their menu again. Onion soup starter and buffalo wings to share were very tasty. Thank you and see you soon.

Really welcoming with good service. Excellent vegetarian Wellington with gravy and Yorkshire pudding. The haloumi stack was also good with a variety of vegetables dressed with pesto. Elegant beer garden with views of the neighbouring fields.
