About This Pub
Ah, The Duke – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Wickford, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are absolute stars; they're super welcoming and go out of their way to make sure everyone's having a good time, which really sets the tone for a great night out. The live bands on weekends add that extra spark, turning it into a lively hub where you can kick back with mates, and the beer garden is a real treat, especially on a nice day – plenty of space to chat and enjoy a cold one without feeling cramped. Plus, it's thoughtfully set up for everyone, with wheelchair access and some tasty gluten-free options on the menu, so it's inclusive without making a fuss. On the flip side, it's pretty much a classic drinkers' pub at heart, so if you're hoping for a gourmet dining experience, you might find it a bit straightforward. And honestly, sorting out the online info can be a pain with the website playing up, and the opening times seem a bit muddled, but once you're there, it's all worth it for the warm atmosphere and affordable drinks. Overall, I'd say it's a winner for a casual evening, especially if you're up for some music and a chat – just pop in and see for yourself!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in
-
They've got fantastic live bands playing on weekends, which really livens up the place and creates a buzzing atmosphere
-
There's a massive beer garden out back, ideal for soaking up the sun or sheltering from a light shower, plus a cosy one out front
-
Drinks are reasonably priced, so you won't break the bank enjoying a pint or two
-
It's fully wheelchair accessible with a ramp and plenty of space, and they've got a solid menu with an impressive range of gluten-free dishes
Cons
-
It seems to be more of a traditional drinkers' spot, so if you're after a fancy meal, it might not quite hit the mark
-
Their online presence is a bit lacking – the website's not working properly, which makes it tricky to check details before heading out
-
The operating hours can look a tad confusing from what's listed, but it generally stays open late, so it's worth double-checking if you're planning a visit

Wonderful little pub extremely friendly staff and fantastic bands on the weekends
Was absolutely steaming, but everyone was friendly and beer was reasonably priced. More than anything they put up with me. Will definitely go again.
Lovely bar team and atmosphere especially on a Saturday when live music playing, massive beer garden out back and a nice little one out front..we go atleast twice a month now for team building nights out...and everyone loves it there
Certainly a drinkers pub they also have an outside seating area with sun and rain shelters. The car park extends round to the side and rear of the pub. On a mid week afternoon there were quite a few clientele both inside and outside when I visited.
They are starting to have regular live bands playing there at weekends👍
Very nice pub wheelchair accessible via a ramp in the rear beer garden fully wheelchair friendly throughout the menu is very good with an amazing range of gluten free dishes we went in on a lunchtime the staff were great and the other diners very friendly will definitely go again very soon
