About This Pub

Ah, The Drapers Arms – it's one of those classic pubs in Stevenage that feels like a proper local haunt. I reckon it's a solid choice if you're up for watching the footie; they've got tellys everywhere and the atmosphere really ramps up during matches, making it a fun spot to cheer on your team with a pint in hand. The beer selection is spot on too, with plenty of options to suit different tastes. And let's not forget the breakfast – it's meant to be an absolute winner, ideal for a lazy weekend morning. The staff are lovely as well, always ready to lend a hand if something's not quite right. On the flip side, though, the food can be a mixed bag; I've heard a few tales of meals coming out undercooked or not as described, which is a shame when you're looking forward to a proper bite. Still, for a casual get-together or a match day buzz, it's worth popping in – just keep your expectations in check for the grub and maybe plan ahead if it's a busy time.

Pros and Cons

  • It's a brilliant spot for catching the footie, with loads of TVs and a buzzing atmosphere that really gets you in the spirit.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers on tap, so you're spoilt for choice if you're after a good pint.
  • The breakfast here is spot on – folks reckon it's the best in Stevenage, perfect for a hearty start to the day.
  • The pub's nice and spacious, making it easy to handle crowds and groups without feeling too cramped.
  • The staff are dead friendly and quick to sort out any issues, which makes for a welcoming vibe overall.
Cons
  • Food quality can be a bit dodgy at times, like undercooked jacket potatoes or steaks that end up overdone.
  • Some dishes might not live up to expectations, with complaints about cold sides or portions that feel a tad skimpy.
  • It gets absolutely packed during big matches, so you might need to book ahead or risk not getting a seat.

If I'm in Stevenage on business and i want to watch football on TV, i come to The Drapers. I've not eaten here so can't comment on food but there's always a wide selection of beers on offer and more TV's available than you could shake a stick at.

Ordered doritos chilli jacket potato, came with a teaspoon amount of sauce with a few kidney beans, little bit of cheese and a sprinkle of spring onions...looked like a plain jacket to be honest. The jacket was not cooked, Rock hard on one half and nearly soft on the other, it had butter on it but tasted just plain. Definitely had been microwaved, which I don't mind if fully cooked. My partner had sausage and mash, was very dry. Sausages appeared to have been microwaved. The mash was packet mash and rather chewy. The gravy didn't even make it seem wet, just like a very thick chewy consistency throughout. My son had burger and waffle fries (asked for no lettuce as my son has autism and is an extremely selective eater) his food came with lettuce on his plate, I quickly dashed it off but assumed it had been pulled off his burger as was only a small amount. Unfortunately he saw this so didn't touch the burger, which if I'm honest I wish I had ordered as his kids meal had more food than my adult meal. The waffle fries were nice also. He ate his garlic bread so can only assume that was nice, basic garlic bread slices. The pudding that came with the kids meal however was a huge let down too. Perfect amount for a child but the brownie was inedible, couldn't get a spoon through it. It was cremated and the ice cream had large lumps of ice in it. For the price, 30 pound it was definitely not worth it. I can go to witherspoon and pay half the price for at least edible food.

My medium rare steak was past well done. Peas were still cold. Staff was very kind and offered to replace the food immediately but I didnt have the time. Chef needs replacing.

Early morning breakfast. Excellent! They appear to be opening in time for breakfast again. This is easily the best breakfast in Stevenage. Getting over a car breakdown I was on my own and by 10 o'clock the place had two groups in. It's big enough to cope with them.

This is one the famous Sports Pub in Stevenage Old Town High Street. It's quite a big pub. This pub will be very crowded when there are football matches. If you want to visit a pub during football matches then there should be a prior booking of the table is recommended. If you are doing prior booking they charge 10 Pounds per person. But they also issue a voucher for 10 Pounds and you can utilise when you visit on the day of booking. So technically you don't lose your booking amount. Drinks are a little expensive compared to other pubs but it's worth it to pay as this pub has a different atmosphere. Along with drinks they also serve food like Burgers, Nachos, Crisps, Chips..... We tasted a few of them and it was quite good. It's a highly recommended pub. Try visiting once and you will keep visiting regularly.
