About This Pub

Ah, El Bar de Tapas – it's one of those places that just feels like a hidden gem in Stevenage, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks are raving about the authentic Spanish tapas that's fresh and packed with flavour, especially hits like the chorizo and cod croquettes that seem to steal the show. The staff really go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, and the service is spot on – quick without rushing you, which is just what you want on a laid-back evening with mates. It's got that cosy, friendly atmosphere that's perfect for catching up over a glass of wine or sangria, and the value's brilliant too, with lunch deals that let you try a few dishes without emptying your wallet. But hey, it's not all perfect; I've heard a couple of mentions about the paella being a tad bland, so maybe skip that if you're after something more exciting. And do keep in mind it's shut on Mondays, which might cramp your style for a spontaneous visit. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for anyone after a taste of Spain in a welcoming setting – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as long as you book ahead for the popular spots!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – authentic Spanish tapas that's fresh, full of flavour, and hits the spot, with standout dishes like chorizo and cod croquettes that keep you coming back.
  • The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed meal with friends or a special occasion, tucked away in the heart of Stevenage.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home, with quick and efficient service that doesn't leave you waiting around.
  • Great value for money, especially with deals like the lunch menu offering three dishes for just £13.95 – it's a bargain for a satisfying meal.
  • It's a family-run spot that combines the best of imported Spanish ingredients with local produce, giving that genuine taste of Spain without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • One or two dishes, like the paella, might come across as a bit plain or underwhelming compared to the rest of the menu, so it pays to choose carefully.
  • They're closed on Mondays, which could be a downer if you're planning a mid-week outing and fancy a tapas fix.
  • As it's a smaller venue, it might get cosy during busier times, so booking ahead is a must to avoid disappointment.

Located in Old Stevenage, this restaurant offers authentic Spanish food. It has a very lovely atmosphere and a welcoming staff. We had a really lovely time during father's day. The only improvement opportunity was on the paella as the flavour was slightly plain, however the rest of the food was bang on!. I would definitely recommend visiting this place

Had lunch here today. Nice place with great music. Service was also great throughout. The food is decent and the standout dish was the chorizo. The prawns/gammas were also good. My daughter really liked the cod croquettes too. Good value as well. Three dishes for £12 on a lunchtime menu.
