About This Pub

Ah, The Crown on Walney Island – what a gem for anyone fancying a proper pub outing. From the moment you step in, it's got this inviting, homely vibe that's just right for catching up with mates over some top-notch home-cooked grub and a selection of award-winning ales. I love how they've nailed the balance of being dog-friendly and welcoming to families, with a well-kept beer garden that's ideal for a relaxed afternoon. The food gets plenty of praise, especially the hearty portions and varied menu that caters to vegetarians, and the service seems spot on, even when it's buzzing with a big crowd. On the flip side, it does get lively and a tad loud when things pick up, so if you're after a quiet nook, you might find it a bit much. And while most dishes are bang on, a few folks noted they're good rather than extraordinary, plus that odd poppadom with the Thai curry is a funny one. All in all, with such solid ratings and that historic charm from its 1865 roots, I'd say it's well worth swinging by for a pint or a meal – just plan around the busier times for the best experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – home-cooked meals with generous portions and plenty of vegetarian options that really hit the mark, like that falafel and spinach burger everyone's raving about.
  • It's got a warm, welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for a mix of drinkers and diners, creating a lively buzz without feeling overwhelming most of the time.
  • Dog-friendly and family-friendly vibes make it a great spot to bring the whole gang, plus there's a lovely beer garden for enjoying those award-winning cask ales on a sunny day.
  • Free parking nearby and wheelchair accessibility mean it's easy to pop in, and the staff are spot on with service, even for larger groups.
  • With a stellar 4.6 rating from heaps of reviews, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a good time, especially for a traditional pub experience in a historic setting.
Cons
  • It can get quite busy and noisy at peak times, which might make it a bit too lively if you're after a peaceful evening.
  • Some dishes are great but not always outstanding – one person mentioned their food was good without being excellent, so expectations might need to be tempered.
  • There's a quirky thing with certain meals, like the Thai curry coming with a poppadom, which could be a head-scratcher for some.
  • Opening times seem a tad inconsistent in the details shared, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any surprises.

If I could give 6 stars I would. Food looked amazing and tasted even better. Highly recommend. Everything that came to my parties table looked amazing and was equally well rated.

Great pub, clearly a well established local clientele. Loved the way there was a mix of drinkers and diners and it created a really bubbly atmosphere. My food was great but not excellent. Will definitely go back again next time I'm in the area and I can recommend it to diners and drinkers alike

Absolutely lovely establishment! Very busy at the time of going and quite loud, but offered a lovely comfortable atmosphere. Plenty of seating was available and the garden was well kept and there was plenty of room. Food was promptly brought to the table and was delicious. (Dog friendly)

Had the falafel and spinach burger which was great and a very generous portion with two patties in the burger! Lots of vegetarian friendly options and quality of food is good. The Thai curry is also good, but no sure why it comes with a poppadom?! Would recommend this pub, especially with the free parking.

Excellent pub and restaurant serving a varied menu and good selection of drinks. Visited as a party of 9 for food on a Saturday night. Seated quickly and served in good time. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed what they had ordered. We were well looked after by staff and I highly recommend a visit here. Limited parking is available and the outdoor area is fantastic in the summer.
