About This Pub

Oh, The Crown in Gateshead is one of those timeless pubs that just hits the spot for a casual get-together – you know, the kind where you can sink a pint without breaking the bank and chat with some down-to-earth folks. I really appreciated the warm, buzzing atmosphere; it's got that authentic feel with friendly locals and a jukebox that keeps the energy up, making it ideal for a relaxed night out. The drinks are a steal, especially those early-week deals, and the bar staff are absolute gems, always up for a laugh and making sure everything runs smoothly. On the downside, though, the toilets could use a good tidy-up, and being cash only might be a hassle if you're not prepared – plus, if you're hoping for a proper meal, you'll have to look elsewhere as it's just drinks all the way. All in all, it's a solid spot for us pub lovers who don't mind a few quirks, as long as you're up for keeping it simple and enjoying the company.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is spot on – it's a proper old-school pub with friendly locals and a welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home
  • Drinks are incredibly affordable, especially with those cheap offers on fosters and John Smith's from opening until 5 PM on weekdays
  • The service is fantastic; the bar staff, like Louise, are really attentive and add to the charm of the place
  • It's got that classic pub feel with a jukebox for some great tunes, perfect for a laid-back evening
Cons
  • The toilets aren't the cleanest, which can put a bit of a dampener on things
  • It's cash only, so if you're out of coins or notes, you might have to dash to an ATM
  • There's no food on offer, so you'll need to grab a bite elsewhere if you're peckish

Loved this place. Just what a good old fashioned pub should be like. Down to earth locals, had a great time. Loved the jukebox. Can't wait to pop back in on our next visit from Birmingham. Didn't have food so can't rate it (alhough I don't remember seeing any on offer). Food was irrelevant anyway - didn't need food to have a good time here.

Place isn't the 'cleanest' (toilets) BUT the atmosphere was spot on and the service was fab! Not a huge amount to complain about. Good for 'salt of the earth' people
