About This Pub

Ah, Microbus Gateshead – what a lovely find it is, tucked away in Gateshead's Railway Quarter. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by this infectious energy and a real sense of community, with the staff going out of their way to make you feel at home, whether it's your first visit or your hundredth. The beers are the star of the show, mind you; they've got an impressive lineup that's won them all sorts of accolades, like being CAMRA's pick for Pub of the Year, and it's easy to see why – everything from the hand pulls to the taps is just spot on. Pair that with a fun atmosphere full of chatter and the occasional tune, and you've got yourself a proper gem for a relaxed afternoon or evening out. On the flip side, it does get packed on busier days, which can make it a bit of a squeeze, and those strong brews might catch you off guard if you're not careful. Still, overall, it's a place that does beer and good times so well, I'd say it's well worth popping over the bridge for – you'll leave with a smile, I reckon.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot-on, with six hand pulls and 14 taps offering a brilliant range of craft brews that really hit the mark.
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, always ready with a smile and even offering tasters to help you choose your drink.
  • It's got such a warm, lively atmosphere with a great crowd of regulars and fun events like music nights, making it feel like a proper community hub.
  • Being award-winning – like CAMRA Gateshead Pub of the Year – speaks volumes; it's clear they've got the quality sussed.
  • Prices are dead reasonable for what you get, so you can enjoy a top-notch pint without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • It can get a bit crowded at times, especially when it's buzzing, which might mean a wait for a seat or service.
  • Some of the stronger beers are deceptively tasty, so it's easy to overdo it if you're not keeping an eye on things.
  • The spot under a railway arch gives it that quirky charm, but it could feel a tad noisy or echoey for those after a quieter spot.

Whenever we are up in Newcastle (which is often) - we will always make the trip over the bridge to visit Microbus without fail. It is an outstanding pub all round. There is great group of locals who drink there, the team working there are always great even when super busy, and the beer is out of this world. Whether you like traditional real ale, hazy craft beers, or 15%+ imperial stout you will find it here and it will be kept perfectly. Well deserved winner of many beer awards.

One of my favourite bars in the Railway Quarter - has a great personality and puts on some brilliant musical arts. Beware though - the strong beers are deceptively delicious!

Went for the first time on Saturday and loved it. Brilliant selection of draft beers. The atmosphere was great too along with the pie 🥧 which was delicious 😋

Spotted this place a few weeks back and knew I needed to visit. Had theatre tickets booked in Newcastle so had a walk over to Gateshead, especially. Made to feel very welcome by Suzie as soon as we went in. We were first in that day as we were so keen! 😄 Offered tasters to help decide on drinks, and Suzie was obviously very knowledgeable on the stock. Lots of choice from a wide range of local brewerys. The drinks were fairly priced. Loved the quirky bus/van life style decor. Added bonus that we got to meet Harriet the pub dog and feed her a treat. Did a steady little turn over whilst we were there. Having never been there others that obviously drink there were friendly. Had a relaxed atmosphere. Sold crisp snacks that were really good. Although not Vegan ourselves, good to know that everything offered, both food and drink, is suitable for Vegans. Definitely going to go again! A fun place.
