About This Pub

Ah, The Crane Tap – it's one of those places that really hits the spot for a good meal and a catch-up with friends. I've got to say, the food stands out as a real winner; think juicy steaks and tasty burgers from their Gaucho connections, all made with fresh, quality ingredients that leave you feeling satisfied. The team behind the bar and in the kitchen are absolute stars too, always on hand with a smile and quick to make everyone feel at home, whether you're there with the little ones or just a group of mates. It's got that relaxed, community feel with options like local beers on tap, a pool table for some fun, and even spots to watch the game, making it ideal for everything from a casual drink to a full-on event. On the flip side, though, I've heard whispers that it might be scaling back, which is a bit gutting as it feels like a hidden gem in Twickenham. Plus, it's not the cheapest spot, so you might want to save it for when you're in the mood to treat yourself rather than a regular haunt. All in all, if you're in the area, I'd pop in for the experience – just keep an eye on those opening times to avoid any surprises!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is top-notch, especially those signature steaks and burgers from Gaucho – they're cooked with real care using quality ingredients, making every meal feel special.
  • The service is spot on; staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or celebrating something bigger, and it's great for families too.
  • It's a brilliant spot for a relaxed vibe, with a pool table, hidden TV screens, and local beers on tap, perfect for catching up with mates or enjoying a match.
  • The location by the river in Twickenham is lovely, and it's handy for events like rugby days, with a welcoming atmosphere that suits all sorts of occasions.
Cons
  • It seems like the place might be winding down, with mentions of Gaucho cutting back, which is a real shame and could mean it's not around for the long haul.
  • Prices are on the steeper side, so it might not be ideal for a casual night out unless you're up for splashing out a bit.
  • The operating hours look a bit muddled, which could make planning a visit tricky – you might want to double-check before heading over.

Such an excellent local restaurant and bar. A real shame Gaucho's are cutting back. I feel more could be done to promote the Crane Tap and am sorry Gaucho's are not investing in the local community and the staff they have hired. Whilst it is here, I highly recommend the Crane Tap for the exemplary service, good food and atmosphere.

We had a lovely meal for my wife’s birthday. The food was great, we had steaks as the restaurant is under the Gaucho umbrella we knew they’d be good! But best of all was the welcome and the service from Andrea. We had our 3 year old and 3 month old and he was so kind to them both, brought out ice cream with a special birthday message and made us feel very comfortable! Places like this are made all the better for people like Andrea. Thanks!!!

We visited The Crane Tap on my mother’s graduation day and we were so happy with our servers, they were both very polite and attentive and were always there to accommodate our requests even though it got busier after a while. We have throughly enjoyed our starters and mains, particularly the desert Pavlova was a very pleasant surprise!! Thank you all for the lovely service, we will be recommending this place to everybody.

Very nice Gastropub by the river Crane in Twickenham. Did the pre paid match day package, food was amazing, great service and great location opposite the train station and just a 10 minute walk to the rugby stadium.

We love this place - it has a great atmosphere whether you just want to chill for drinks or a proper meal. We’ve been for brunch, lunch, drinks and dinner - always a great time and the food is delicious! We really like that they serve local beer from Twickenham Brewery and have a pool table/darts board. They are part of the Gaucho family so the steak is from Gaucho and a nice, delicious quality. Their burgers are from Meat & Bun and so tasty. The steak sandwich and the wagyu scotch egg are my fav dishes but I also love the salt beef Benedict. The prices are affordable for the quality of food and drinks on offer and the staff are always friendly and accommodating. Very nice addition to Twickenham!
