About This Pub

So, picture this – you're in Twickenham, maybe after a rugby match or just fancying a proper pub lunch, and The Albany comes up as a great option. From what I've gathered, it's got this really inviting feel with amazing food at the heart of it; those Sunday roasts are a standout, with beautifully cooked meat, fresh veg, and all the trimmings that leave you satisfied and smiling. The drinks are solid too, and it's nice how they make room for families and even furry friends in parts of the place, which adds to the community vibe. It's particularly buzzing on match days, making it a fun spot to meet up with mates. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses – some folks have mentioned getting hit with extra fees for simple add-ons like more gravy, which can feel a bit off-putting and takes away from the generosity you'd expect. Plus, it leans a tad more towards a restaurant setup rather than a classic pub, and if you're going for something like the vegan dish, you might find the portions a smidge small. Still, with a solid 4.4 rating overall, it's clear this place does a lot right, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just go in with your eyes open to those little niggles.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, especially those Sunday roasts – tender beef, crunchy veg, and a cracking Yorkshire pud make it a real treat.
  • Service is warm and welcoming, with staff who go out of their way to make you feel at home, which really adds to the enjoyable vibe.
  • It's a brilliant spot for rugby match days, tucked away but buzzing with energy, perfect for gathering with friends before the game.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, like a lovely Merlot, and it's family-friendly with kids welcome until 8pm and dogs getting a cheeky treat in the bar.
  • Handy location with parking options nearby, making it easy to pop in without the hassle.
Cons
  • They charge extra for little things like more gravy, which can feel a bit stingy and take the edge off an otherwise nice meal.
  • It sometimes comes across more like a restaurant than a traditional pub, which might disappoint if you're after that cosy, laid-back feel.
  • Portions can be on the smaller side for some dishes, like the vegan options, so it might not fill you up as much as you'd hope.
  • It's closed on Mondays, which is a shame if you're planning a mid-week visit and have to rearrange.
  • It can get pretty busy, especially on event days, so you might end up waiting around or struggling to find a spot.

The sous vide beef was very good with well cooked vegetables and friendly service. Also enjoyed the Merlot wine. Just a little disappointed that when my wife asked for some more gravy for her veggie roast dinner, we were charged additionally for it. This felt a little churlish TBH as there was barely any gravy on her food in the first place and the extra gravy that was supplied was just a tiny pot of what appeared to be instant gravy granules. The veggie wellington portion was also a bit on the small side. One more thing, the food could have done with being warmer but wasn’t worth kicking up a fuss over.

Great match day pub just off the main drag! This pub is a bit tucked away from the main Twickenham High Street, which makes it a real find—especially on rugby match days. It gets busy, but the vibe is great and it’s a top spot for meeting up with a group. The large parking area is a real bonus, making it easy to gather pre- or post-match without battling the usual High Street crowds. There’s an outdoor bar area that really helps keep the drinks flowing when it’s packed, so service stays pretty quick even when it’s busy. Just a heads-up: the toilets are down a fairly steep set of stairs at the back, so that’s worth bearing in mind if accessibility is a concern. Ideal for a more laid-back pre-match pint!

Allegedly a pub, but it should come with a room key. Feels more like the restaurant in a package holiday hotel—the kind where you're counting down the hours to your flight home. Even the waiter admitted he’d eat there, but wouldn’t drink there. Says it all, really.

First time here. Lovely venue, great service from both people we met. Sunday roasts were top notch, highly recommended. Good price too. Only quibble is that the vegan Wellington offering was significantly smaller than the chicken (see photos). I guess that probably reflects food prices. But would've preferred to pay a £ or two more and been full up! Still, otherwise great, so five stars.

Totally enjoyed a first class roast beef Sunday lunch at The Albany today. The beef, beautifully cooked, tender and moist, veg with crunch, creamy mash with a couple of roast potatoes and a big light Yorkshire pudding, served with a rich tasty gravy. All hot and served promptly on a warm plate - couldn't fault it. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Best eat out Sunday lunch in a long time.
