About This Pub

Ah, The Cleveland Arms – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper British outing. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the staff are absolute gems, always chatting away and making sure everyone's looked after, which really adds to that homely vibe. The food doesn't disappoint either; think tender Sunday roasts with crispy crackling or a fantastic chicken Kiev that's served hot and fresh – it's the kind of grub that'll have you coming back for seconds. The place has this great community spirit, with a mix of people enjoying a pint or a meal, and it's even welcoming to dogs, which is brilliant if you're out with your four-legged friend. On the flip side, though, that automatic service charge can be a bit of a nuisance if it slips by unnoticed, so it's wise to double-check your bill before you head out. And if you're not keen on crowds, the bar might feel a tad overwhelming at times, but the quieter dining spot downstairs is a nice escape. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening out, with plenty of charm to balance out the minor niggles – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always up for a chat and making you feel right at home – shout out to the manager who really goes the extra mile.
  • The food is spot on, with standout dishes like the Sunday roast and chicken Kiev that are packed with flavour and served piping hot.
  • It's got that classic community pub vibe, buzzing with a mix of people from families to couples, and it's even dog-friendly for those who bring their furry mates.
  • The atmosphere is lively yet cosy, especially in the quieter downstairs dining area, making it perfect for a relaxed meal or a proper catch-up.
Cons
  • Watch out for the automatic 17% service charge that's added to your bill – it can catch you off guard if you're not paying close attention.
  • The bar area can get pretty packed, which might make it a bit of a squeeze if you're after a more laid-back drink without the crowds.

Wow, where do I start!? This was my visit to the Cleveland Arms and most definitely not my last. The staff were all super friendly and even had a chat. The manager Jas couldn't do enough for us, and I noticed he was the same with other customers too. You could see how great the relationship was with a manager and his team. You don't see that very much these days, so it was pleasant to witness. I loved how the flowers in the vases were all fresh, don't see that very often. And the food.....I dont want to spoil it for anyone, but I never order Chicken Kiev when I eat out. However, you really must try this, and you won't be disappointed. We even managed a dessert, and the apple and blackberry crumble with custard, so Kudos to the chef, who I believe was called Julia. I absolutely can't wait to visit again because I am desperate to try out the roast dinner 😋 Thank you all for the excellent service 😀

This is everything a modern community pub should be. An eclectic mix of youngsters out for a drink, old boys out for a natter, families coming for dinner and couples spending quality time together. Downstairs dining area provides a quieter space for dining. The bar upstairs was very packed when we arrived, which made it time-consuming ordering a drink to consume.

Food excellent! Atmosphere like you’d expect in a good ole English pub. Service was good but taking off two stars because a 17% service charge was automatically added. We didn’t notice until we had left the pub. So, word to the wise — order at the bar even if the staff offer to “take care of everything “ here. Seems like more and more we see service charges being added in areas of the world where tipping is not part of the culture. Idk

Sunday Pork Roast at The Cleveland Arms – A Perfect Weekend Treat If you’re looking for a proper Sunday roast in a cozy, welcoming spot, The Cleveland Arms absolutely delivers. The pork roast is the star of the show – tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The crackling is perfectly crisp, just the way it should be, and the portion sizes are generous without being over the top. The roast comes with all the classic trimmings: crispy roast potatoes, seasonal veg, and a Yorkshire pudding that’s light and golden. The gravy ties it all together beautifully – rich, savory, and clearly made from scratch. What really elevates the experience, though, is the atmosphere. The Cleveland Arms strikes that perfect balance between relaxed and refined. It’s got that warm, local pub vibe with friendly staff and a buzz of conversation in the air. Whether you’re there with friends or just soaking up a quiet Sunday, it feels like the kind of place you’ll want to come back to. Highly recommend booking ahead – once you’ve had their roast, you’ll understand why it’s a local favorite.

Absolutely fantastic! Loved the atmosphere-a friendly & packed neighborhood pub where people bring their dogs. We ate downstairs and the 3 of us all had the chicken Kiev and it was piping hot and fantastic. Loved watching the kitchen - what a well oiled and efficient staff - so impressed. I never take pictures of my food - but I did that night - A+++
