About This Pub
Ah, The Bear Pub – it's one of those hidden gems tucked away near Paddington that really hits the mark for anyone after a proper craft beer experience. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the place does wonders with its massive range of beers, pulling in everything from UK classics to European delights, and they've got the food side sorted too with those fresh burgers that folks rave about. The staff seem like a friendly bunch, always up for a chat and making sure you're looked after, which adds to that cosy, welcoming vibe you'd expect from a good old London pub. On the flip side, it's not all perfect; prices can mount up quickly, and while most visits are top-notch, there was that one off day where service fell a bit flat, leaving someone feeling underwhelmed. Overall, if you're in the area and fancy a pint with mates, I'd say give it a go – it's got that solid 4.8 rating for a reason, but just be prepared for the odd hiccup to keep things real.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
Fantastic selection of craft beers, with over 200 bottled options, 29 on keg, and 6 cask ales – it's a real treat for beer enthusiasts.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making every visit feel warm and welcoming, just like chatting with old mates.
-
Freshly prepared food, especially the burgers made in-house with top-notch ingredients from local suppliers, is spot on and full of flavour.
-
Lovely atmosphere in a modern, airy space near Paddington, offering a genuine pub vibe without the tourist trap feel.
-
Plenty of options for groups, like the private 'Den' for up to 36 people, perfect for a get-together or special occasion.
Cons
-
Drinks can be a tad pricey, as one experience noted a beer and gin and tonic coming to over £23, which might sting the wallet compared to nearby spots.
-
Service isn't always spot-on; there was a mention of it being inattentive during a quieter visit, so it could vary depending on the time.

No not the fictional Chicago restaurant, but a very real London craft beer pub. One of the sisters in the Craft Beer Co family.
Airy, modern and plenty of great craft to choose from. Bit of a gem in the barren land around Paddington.
Staff and service is top notch.
Burgers are well made and the condiments tray is superb.
Very friendly , helpful and tentative staff. Fantastic array of drinks especially craft beers . If you wish for a quiet area, then the den is ideal. The burgers and onion rings are great. I highly recommend you to try this place if you wish for a quality burger and drink . Well done to the owner and staff.
We wanted to have a pint of beer at a quintessential English pub on our first night in London and The Bear Pub checked all the boxes. It had everything we wanted without being a tourist trap. Such a great selection of beer and a fantastic vibe. Service was great. Would highly recommend!
(Did not order food) Not one to post a negative review unless warranted but in this case-warranted. Stopped in with my husband for a drink,a beer and a double gin & tonic at a higher cost than many other local pubs,23£.50. Nice looking place, loved the decor, very quiet & not at all busy at 3:30 on a Thursday afternoon. The issue was when I ventured downstairs to use the ladies room did my "tinkle" and no toilet paper!! Since I did not have any tissue & napkins with me,I moved to the next stall since I did not want to smell of urine the remainder of the day.....again NO toilet paper....next stall, thank God,a small roll on top of the large dispenser. Upon leaving,I notified the two bartender ladies about the need for more toilet paper. Their reply is what pushed me to write the review. Admitted they were aware & did not address it, said they were sorry very nonchalantly & that was the end of it. They were not busy at all, just chatting behind the bar! At least they knew where that magic roll of toilet paper was...so much for their customers. "Cheers!"
Only popped in for a couple of drinks but what a place. If you're a fan of craft or cask beer this is the spot for you.
The pub was busy when we went in early evening but managed to get a seat. Noisy and good atmosphere. Will definitely be back next time we are in the area.
