About This Pub
Ah, The Chelsea Gate – it's one of those pubs that can really lift your spirits on a good day, especially if you're a footie fan catching a Chelsea game. I have to say, the atmosphere is top-notch when it's on form; picture yourself joining in with chants and soaking up that electric energy, all while enjoying a properly chilled beer. It's got that classic pub charm that's drawn in plenty of positive vibes over the years. But, and it's a big but, things have taken a turn with the new owners, from what I've heard from mates who've been regulars. Some are gutted about the drop in standards – think dodgy service where the bar staff might vanish mid-pour, or just the one toilet to handle the crowds, which doesn't make for the best experience. And let's not forget, it can get a bit chaotic during peak times, like running out of pints when you need them most. Overall, it's a mixed bag; if you're up for a lively shout-along session, give it a go, but maybe keep your expectations in check and plan for the quirks. I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just to see for yourself and decide if it's your cup of tea – or should I say, pint of ale!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere during football matches is absolutely buzzing, especially for Chelsea fans – it's like being in the heart of the action with chants and excitement that really get you going.
-
They serve up nice, cold beer that's always a winner, making it a solid spot for a refreshing pint after a long day.
-
With an overall rating of 4.4, it's clear this place has built a strong reputation as a go-to for a good time, drawing in crowds who appreciate the lively vibe.
Cons
-
Under the new owners, things have slipped a bit, with some regulars saying the charm of the old days has faded, leaving the place feeling a tad lacklustre.
-
Facilities can be a letdown, like having just the one toilet on offer, which doesn't quite cut it when it's busy.
-
Bar service isn't always spot on, with staff sometimes getting distracted and leaving you hanging mid-order, which can be a real frustration.
-
During big events, they might run out of beer or feel cramped, so it's not ideal if you're after a seamless experience.

Came in last night for the Conference league final, I was the one who started all the chants in the black Drogba shirt, best atmosphere it’s been in a long long time, my only recommendation, get rid of the tables during cup finals for more room for more fans, and put the flags blocking the window how it used to be but other than that, great night

We went to The Chelsea Gate Pub today for the first time for the Chelsea Liverpool Match and it was a great atmosphere with Chelsea fans. The beer was nice and cold. I recommend this place and we will be coming back to this pub!!!
We used to come here before & after games when it was the chelsea pensioner it had a great atmosphere with plenty of football chants & a great Dj set playing great tunes. We came in on Saturday after the Ipswich game & boy the new owners have completely undone the great previous owners work, the memorabilia on the walls & ceiling gone, DJ playing great music gone, atmosphere gone, the pub was over half empty. All I can say to the new owners is if you intended to destroy a pub congratulations job done, sadly we won't be going back anytime soon.
Used to be a great pub. Was in Sunday after the Ipswich game. One toilet for the whole pub, downstairs closed off apparently. Bar staff who wandered off to serve someone else in the middle of serving you. Won't be returning.
I’m a Chelsea season ticket holder and have been going to this pub for years, since the new ownership the pub has really gone down hill, last night was the worse! A match day a London derby v Spurs and the pub ran out of beer before the game with only one pump working at the start. Pathetic sadly can only see the place going one way and that’s boarded up soon
