About This Pub
Ah, The Champion – what a gem of a spot in the heart of Notting Hill. I have to say, it's got this wonderful mix of traditional pub charm and a bit of celebrity sparkle, thanks to its ties with Freddie Mercury, which really makes it stand out for a casual visit. The staff are just brilliant, always so attentive and chatty, helping you pick the perfect drink or dish, and the food doesn't disappoint either – think hearty Sunday roasts or reliable classics like fish and chips that hit the spot every time. It's pet-friendly too, so you can bring along your four-legged mate for a pint in the beer garden, which is a lovely touch. On the downside, though, London's prices mean it might not be the cheapest night out, and with it not opening until noon, it's not ideal if you're an early bird. Still, for a relaxed catch-up with mates or a bit of history with your ale, it's well worth popping in – just book ahead if you fancy a table, as it can get buzzing.

In Notting Hill we ducked into The Champion for a quick pint — and ended up stepping into rock history.
It’s a gorgeous little spot with stained glass windows, a proper local feel, and a great beer selection. But the real surprise? Freddie Mercury used to live just around the corner — and it’s said he wrote We Are the Champions right nearby. Suddenly, our quiet pint felt a whole lot more legendary!
We love stumbling across places like this — where the beer is cold, the atmosphere is warm, and the history sneaks up on you. Worth a visit for Queen fans and pub lovers alike. 🍻🎶👑
We are tourists, so we came because of the Freddie Mercury theme and naturally got fish and chips. This is a nice pub with very accommodating and polite servers. Our sever nicely gave us drink recommendations and being Americans, she made sure to ask “how we were” and if we wanted ice with our water. Small but great and kind gestures! The food, service, and drinks were great! Food prices matched the quality, consider splitting a meal though if on a budget.
Great place for a Sunday roast. The vegetarian nut roast was lovely! All the staff were super friendly and welcoming. Very well organised, would highly recommend booking! Good vibes with Freddie Mercury history if you’re a fan! Pet friendly too so expect to see some furry friends :)
The ambiance and food were great as was the service. We are from the USA, but lived around the corner beginning in 1978 when The Champion was a gay pub. We passed by The Champion daily and never thought to go in. We have come back to London many times and last year for the first time we stopped in for lunch. It was delicious and so we returned again this year and were not disappointed: everyone loved their meal. We leave for home soon but are coming back before we go for one more lunch. It is my favorite place in London for a reasonable and delicious meal.
Really nice place, initially it seems like your average smart pub but the downstairs reveals a really cool little beer garden and a basement bar area. Service friendly and helpful. Prices average London prices. Overall a really nice place that obviously loves Queen.
