About This Pub
Ah, The Cat's Pyjamas Bar & Eatery—it's one of those places in Scarborough that you hear about and think, 'Why not give it a go?' From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this lovely, well-thought-out decor that makes you feel right at home, all clean and inviting with a great ambience that really stands out. The food can be a real treat; I mean, who could resist a good panini or that afternoon tea with stunning views? And the coffee—blimey, it's a bespoke blend that's spot on, paired with drinks like a creamy latte or a indulgent hot chocolate that folks are raving about. But let's be honest, it's not all sunshine; some dishes, like the sandwiches, are a bit lacking in the filling department, and you'll notice it's moderately priced but might feel a tad steep for what ends up on your plate. Service varies—sometimes it's spot-on and friendly, but other times it feels a bit off, with staff not checking in or coming across as disinterested, and don't even get me started on sticky tables or that background music that can be a right distraction. Overall, it's a solid 3.7 rating spot that's open seven days a week from around 9am, so if you're popping by for a casual meal or a drink, go in with an open mind—it's got its gems, but it's best enjoyed knowing it has a few rough edges.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere and decor are absolutely charming, with so much thought put into making the place feel welcoming and spotlessly clean—it's one of those spots that just lifts your spirits as soon as you walk in.
-
The food and drinks hit the mark in many ways; think delicious paninis, tasty toasties, and a standout afternoon tea with beautiful views that make it perfect for a relaxed catch-up.
-
Service can be friendly and efficient at times, with quick delivery of drinks like lattes, hot chocolates, and even a brilliant banana milkshake that had me going back for more.
-
They serve an excellent bespoke coffee blend that's unique to the place, and some reviews rave about the overall experience, especially for a cheeky Baileys hot chocolate.
Cons
-
Some menu items fall short, like sandwiches that are skimpy on filling and heavy on bread, which can leave you feeling a bit short-changed for the price.
-
Service isn't always up to scratch—it's been described as surly or disinterested at times, and there might not be much follow-up to check if everything's alright.
-
The place can have its grubby moments, with sticky tables and areas that need a good wipe-down, which puts a damper on the vibe.
-
It's on the pricey side for what you get, especially with smaller portions, and little things like cold beverages or distracting background music can make the visit less enjoyable.

Chose to eat away from the main front. Panini was good. Toastie was good. Sandwich was lacking in filling, deep on the bread slice, came with nachos so the child was happy. Drinks wise. Latte good. Other beverages cold. Ambience very good. Service ok though no one followed up with asking if food was ok or if more drinks were needed. Nor anyone asked for anything else for example desserts. If this had happened I would have mentioned that then naked burger was tough as old boots. I tried a bit from both as they served two small burgers topped with cheese. Upon leaving I spoke to a lady and did report that the food was not good. That the food should be cooked again tested in house to see if they would serve it. I wouldn't recommend this item. Otherwise an ok place to stop.
Just been away for a few days and found this little gem. Staff are great, nothing to much trouble. We booked in for afternoon tea and it was beautiful and so was the view. Would defo recommend 👌 👍 even if its just for a Baileys hot chocolate mmmm.
Absolutely love the atmosphere and decor. So much thought and care went into this place and everything seemed so clean and dust free.
We only ordered drinks, a latte, a hot chocolate, flat white, and banana milkshake, and they came in great time and were delicious, especially the milkshake which was honestly delightful
The server is a little hidden behind the bar but she was very pleasant and had a laugh with us so loved that
Drinks came in a timely fashion. Toilets are on the second floor and were so nice! They have an upstairs dining room but that was closed.
I'd have loved to give this place 5/5 but they had a wineglass with live fish in which I can't condone. Really hope they reconsider how cruel and disrespectful that is.
We came here last week for lunch and whilst on the pricey side for the portion size and the service is surly at times and disinterested, as we enjoyed our sandwiches we came back today for breakfast.
What a HUGE mistake there is no greeting from the staff the tables were sticky and full of salt as were the seats.
The breakfasts were shocking under cooked sausages and eggs, over cooked bacon that you would need a chainsaw to cut through, burnt hash browns the bowls the beans came in were chipped .
It is such a beautiful location and building it’s a shame they don’t appreciate the customers more.
We won’t be back head over to the artisan cafe beside M&S or sunrise on the beach front much better options.
A rather unusual kind of café that serves an excellent coffee of an apparently bespoke blend unique to this business. This was my first visit, but I noticed that it attracts some strange characters. The service was friendly and very quick, the only distraction being the background music, which I found irritating for some reason that I can't explain. The counter is very high, and I was amused that only the head of the girl at the counter was visible. It isn't the kind of venue that I would like to spend much time in, though the decorations are interesting.
