About This Pub
Ah, The Castle – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in the heart of London, you know? I've heard from a few mates that it's got this inviting vibe, with a snug fire to chase away the chill and a garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun on a lazy afternoon. The staff are dead helpful and make you feel right at ease, and the drinks selection is spot on, from cracking local ales to a nice glass of wine or even a decent coffee if you're not in the mood for booze. The food's generally a winner too, with classics like the Castle Burger and Jerk Chicken getting high praise for their flavour, and it's great that it's so welcoming to families and dogs – makes it feel inclusive rather than stuffy. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; some folks have had a rough time with the Sunday roasts, turning up to find them looking a bit sad or not quite up to scratch, which is a pity because that's meant to be a highlight. There've been tales of booking woes, like the pub being unprepared or running low on menu items, leaving groups disappointed, especially for events. Still, with an overall solid reputation, I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just maybe check ahead and avoid peak times to get the best experience. All in all, it's a place that does the basics brilliantly but could iron out a few kinks to make it truly unbeatable.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely charming – it's that perfect cosy spot with a roaring fire in winter and a lovely garden for those balmy summer evenings, making it ideal for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
-
The staff are so welcoming and friendly; they really make you feel at home, whether you're popping in for a pint or settling in for the night.
-
They've got a cracking selection of local ales, fine wines, and great coffee, plus the food hits the mark with favourites like the Castle Burger and Jerk Chicken – proper tasty grub when it's done right.
-
It's brilliantly family and dog-friendly, so you can bring the little ones or your furry friend along without any fuss, which is a real bonus for us lot who like to keep things inclusive.
Cons
-
Sunday roasts can be a bit hit or miss; some folks have mentioned getting dishes that look underwhelming or even cold, which is a shame when you're craving that hearty traditional meal.
-
There have been a few grumbles about bookings and menu availability, like running out of options early or not being prepared for reservations, which might leave you disappointed if you're planning something special.
-
The place is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so it's not always an option for a midweek pint, which could be a downside if you're after somewhere open all the time.
-
Service can vary depending on when you visit; while it's generally spot on, a couple of experiences have been less than ideal, especially later in the evening.

My wife and I ordered Sunday roasts and were served very sad looking dishes. I have seen some of the pictures other people have posted and whatever they gave us looks nothing like theirs. We did come slightly past 5 pm, which means they may not have had all of the ingredients but THEY COULD HAVE TOLD US. They simply said they didn’t have any more beef roasts, so we ordered a veggie one and a chicken one. That’s it, no other warnings.
By far some of the saddest roasts we’ve had. Paying £19.95 for the chicken one and about £16 for the veggie one felt outrageous.
Won’t come back.
What a terrible experience! I booked a table for 12 at 7.30pm to celebrate my birthday. There was hardly anything left on the menu but the pub was empty. They said they were aware of my booking for nearly a week but they had such a busy afternoon... After taking our orders (nothing any of us wanted but what they had left) they didn't serve us again. When we had to ask the staff if we could order our desserts they said the kitchen closed nearly an hour ago but didn't think to take our dessert order earlier or let us know when it was last orders. There were only 3 other tables so hardly run off their feet The staff were too busy chatting among themselves behind the bar all evening instead of looking after the customers. The waitress said she would let the team know we weren't happy... Completely incompetent. None of us would ever go back which is a shame being my local
Our local - lovely landlord Adam with his helpful team always give good service. A great place for gatherings in the sun of a Friday night after work especially with kids. Indoors is warm & inviting with a piano player and roaring fire and outside is great for noisy kids to run around together as it’s a close so it’s relatively car free.
I love this place. Very cosy. Nice welcoming service, from a very hard working team. Lovely fresh beer. Excellent atmosphere, especially later in the afternoon. The food is very good quality, can't fault that. There's only one thing they could improve a bit, is the roast can be a little on the cold side. Definitely not the service, as the food was brought quickly, it's plated or held in the kitchen that way. Would be great if their owner could invest in some hot plates, so the food can be put on the plate hot. I think they would be booked out for months in advance with that, as there's not much in the way of competition in the area. Only a couple of other places. I would highly recommend still. X
