About This Pub

Ah, The Nags Head – it's one of those pubs that really sticks in your mind, isn't it? Tucked away in Walthamstow, it's got this brilliant pink exterior and interior that screams personality, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. The atmosphere is spot on for a good catch-up with friends; think excellent music, whether it's a live band or a DJ spinning tunes, and that warm, welcoming vibe that keeps you coming back. The drinks selection is spot on too – plenty of craft beers and lagers to choose from, and they've got some cracking offers that make it easy to settle in for the evening. Then there's the food; the pizzas and loaded fries are absolute winners, smelling and tasting so good that you'll be tempted to order seconds. Plus, with spacious outdoor areas and a beer garden, it's ideal for those balmy evenings when you want to make the most of the weather. But, and I have to be honest here, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of unexpected fees, like charging for bringing in a cake, which can put a dampener on things and feels a bit cheeky. The opening times can be a bit hit and miss too, so you'd want to plan around that. Overall, though, if you're after a pub with character and a fun crowd, it's well worth a visit – just go in with your eyes open and you'll have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant – it's quirky, fun, and feels like you're in a lively friend's living room with great music and a welcoming vibe.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of drinks, including craft beers, lagers, and ales, plus exciting offers that make it easy to relax with a pint.
  • The food is a real highlight, especially the pizzas and loaded fries – they look and taste amazing, perfect for a casual meal or snack.
  • Spacious outdoor seating areas and a beer garden provide a lovely spot to enjoy the fresh air, especially on a sunny day.
  • Friendly staff and occasional live music or DJ sets add to the excitement, making it a top choice for a night out or catching up with mates.
Cons
  • There have been reports of unexpected fees, like a 'cake fee' for bringing in your own birthday cake, which can feel a bit off-putting and spoil the fun.
  • Opening hours vary and might not suit everyone, with evenings starting later in the week, so it's worth checking ahead if you're planning an early visit.
  • The quirky decor, while charming to some, might be a tad overwhelming for those who prefer a more traditional pub setting.

Terrible! We came here for our friends birthday and bought lots of food and drinks. We then brought out a cake to sing happy birthday (standard fare) and a member of the bar staff rudely came out just after we finished singing to demand to the table we pay a ‘cake fee’ - what the hell is this? It made us all so uncomfortable on what should have been a lovely celebration and the birthday girl felt so bad she went in to try and sort it out herself, just a terrible way to ruin a birthday and what should’ve been a good celebration. Expected better when a large group of us went to support a local pub, won’t be back….

'Gin, pizza, ale, cats' as the sign above the bar states. The exterior of the pub is pink, as is much of the interior, the decor, even the card machines. It's not subtle. But it is BRILLIANT. Much like spending the evening in the living room of a quirky but enormously fun friend, with excellent music taste. This pub has many good elements, but the most important is that is has soul. Something missing from so many pubs. This is a pub for all. And it's bloody great.

Loved this pub. The pizza was great. The DJ better and the atmosphere is awesome. Love the sense of style. Will be making it my local!

Quirky suburban pub in a residential area with a good live funk/jazz band from time to time. Decent variety of craft beers and lagers and a suitable food menu. The loaded chilli fries and the diavolo pizza were nice. Also has a large (semi-)outdoor area at the back (it may or may not be partially covered) which has vibey lighting.
