About This Pub
Ah, The Bull in Islington – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper British gem, you know? From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, it's all about that blend of hip and wholesome, with a menu that's full of flavoursome dishes like those mouthwatering nachos or a classic Sunday roast that keeps people coming back. The atmosphere is traditional and clean, making it ideal for a laid-back afternoon or evening with mates or family, and the staff are genuinely warm, often going above and beyond to ensure everything's just right. On the flip side, it can be a bit on the quiet side, which is lovely if you're after some peace, but if you're hoping to catch a big game, the limited screens might leave you wanting more excitement. Overall, it's a solid choice for a memorable pint and bite, with its explorative drinks menu and flexible hours adding to the appeal, but it's worth noting that it shines brightest for those relaxed, feel-good occasions rather than high-energy nights out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is absolutely spot on – think delicious Sunday roasts, fresh nachos with brisket, and plenty of tasty vegetarian options that cater to all tastes.
-
It's got that classic British pub charm with a welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed lunch, a post-work catch-up, or even a family gathering.
-
The service is top-notch; staff like Leah go the extra mile to make you feel right at home, adding a personal touch that really makes the place stand out.
-
They're flexible with timings, still serving up roasts late into the afternoon, which is handy if you're running a bit late for your meal.
Cons
-
It can feel a tad quiet at times, especially if you're after a buzzing vibe for watching the footie – not many screens around, so it might not be the best for big match days.
-
The place has had moments where it looks a bit subdued from the outside, like with some work going on, which could put you off if you're not sure it's open.
-
While the atmosphere is charming, it might not suit everyone if you're in the mood for something more lively or energetic.

The food was delicious, the atmosphere and the aesthetic of the pub is traditional, clean and charming! I would definitely recommend it for friends and families to hang out and have a lovely afternoon / night! Giving a shout-out to Leah who was amazing!
Stopped in to watch the first half of the Arsenal Real Madrid UCL match. Not a ton of screens and a quieter atmosphere. But, the nachos we ordered were delicious - would definitely recommend getting them with the brisket added. The tortilla chips were super fresh and delicious!
Had a lovely Sunday roast at this pub. From online reviews, it was the best-looking out of all the pubs in the area. Added bonus: they were still serving it at 3pm, even though it was nearly completely empty at that time.
The vegetables were tasty and the potatoes crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The meat and gravy weren't the best I've had, but they were decent enough. The Yorkshire pudding was delicious. For around £20, it was good value.
The staff were lovely and were even kind enough to swap table reservations around so that we wouldn't have to rush out at the end of our meal, which was a nice touch.
(I have posted this review on other platforms, too)
At short notice we needed somewhere to eat before a show, two vegetarians and one non-veggie. The menus outside looked ok but there was some work going on and wasn't sure if it was open, all looked a bit subdued... went in and everything was light, bright and breezy, grabbed a table, some good veggie choices. I had a steak sandwich and fries, it was absolutely gorgeous. Nice pint of beer too. Desserts looked tempting but we were full!
Great place, lovely food
Christmas day lunch was outstanding 👌🏼
Service impeccable, totally recommend
Was told we'd have to have a high table at first and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived and had a proper table, my Husband and Daughter and I had a wonderful time. Thank you 😊 🙏🏽
We might just be back next year too 🙏🏽
And will definitely be in to sample a Sunday roast very soon.
