About This Pub

Ah, The Brougham – it's one of those hidden gems in North London that I've come across and can't help but chat about with mates. From what I've gathered from the reviews and a quick peek at their site, it's got this warm, inviting charm that makes you want to settle in for the evening. The staff really shine through; they're helpful and cheerful, turning a simple visit into something memorable, whether you're grabbing a drink or tucking into one of their fabulous Sunday roasts. Speaking of food, the portions are generous and fresh, and it's clear folks are raving about it – perfect for a lazy afternoon catch-up. Plus, being dog-friendly and offering perks like a discount for emergency workers adds a nice community feel. On the flip side, it does tend to be on the quieter side, which is brilliant if you're after a peaceful pint, but if you're in the mood for a proper lively knees-up, you might leave feeling it lacked a bit of buzz. And let's be honest, the prices are what you'd expect in London, so it pays to keep an eye on your tab. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed outing, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just check those opening times first to avoid any surprises!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's got this cosy, welcoming vibe with simple yet charming decor that makes you feel right at home.
  • Service is top-notch; the staff are friendly and attentive, always going the extra mile to make your visit enjoyable.
  • They serve up cracking Sunday roasts with fresh, delicious portions that leave you wanting more – a real highlight for a relaxed weekend meal.
  • It's dog-friendly and offers a great selection of beers, cocktails, and wines, plus a cheeky 10% discount for emergency workers, which is a lovely touch.
  • Prime location near Angel tube in Islington, making it super easy to pop in after work or a wander around the area.
Cons
  • It can be a bit quiet at times, especially on weekends, so if you're after a buzzing, lively crowd, you might find it a tad subdued.
  • The operating hours seem a bit muddled from what I've seen, with varying times listed, which could leave you scratching your head about when it's open.
  • Prices are pretty standard for London – like £6.60 for a pint – so it might feel a smidge pricey if you're watching your wallet, but that's just the way of things in the city.

🚇 Angel 🍺 £6.60 Brixton Pale Ale The Brougham is located close to Islington Green in Angel, Islington, North London. The nearest Tube is Angel. The original name of this pub is The Carved Red Lion which was first built in the late 18th century. The pub was then rebuilt in the mid 19th Century, a terracotta plaque is located at the top of the building which still bears the name of the old pub. The Carved Red Lion was a pub that became known as a predominantly lesbian pub, hosting discos in the 1970s and 1980s. The pub became The Winchester in 2006, then The Brougham in 2022. This is a one bar pub that is set out in an ‘L’ shape and has a minimal contemporary feel. As you enter, there is narrow section with seating either side and a booth at the far end. If you head up some stairs, you’ll find the servery to your left and a raised area with railings and a banquette snaking around the wall. The decor is white walls with decorative artworks, a boarded floor and a small fireplace. There is a bar in the basement which is used for functions and private hire, outside are a few benches for the warmer months. The pub has had an exterior makeover since visiting (last pic). The beer line up was all keg and comprised of familiar mainstream brands. I decided on a Brixton Pale Ale, my pint was decent, price point was above average. The food menu consists of a selection of pizzas and pub classics, Fish & Chips costs £16, Roasts are available on a Sunday. I arrived around 6pm on a Saturday evening in March. The pub was fairly busy with a chilled, relaxed and convivial candlelit atmosphere. The punters were a mix of young and old with a couple of solo drinkers watching Six Nations rugby. The service was good, I was served in no time at all and the team member was pleasant. This pub feels like part pub, part cocktail bar and part Gastro, maybe it is all of these things. This is a good spot to take your better half or to enjoy the pub’s well celebrated Sunday roast. 📅 16th March 2024 More London Pub info @londonpubmap 🍻

We recently rented out this bar for an after-party, and it was an excellent choice! The ambiance was fantastic, with well-designed lighting that perfectly complemented the lively atmosphere. The overall space was generous and comfortable, accommodating our group with ease and leaving plenty of room for everyone to mingle and dance. While the speakers were functional, the sound quality didn’t quite meet our expectations. The volume was adequate but lacked the robust bass we’d hoped for to fully energize the dance floor. That being said, the attentive staff and excellent service made up for it, ensuring that everything else ran smoothly. Overall, this venue is an outstanding option for anyone looking to host a vibrant gathering or after-party. The bar's atmosphere, combined with its exceptional service, made it a memorable experience for all our guests. Highly recommend!

Had a lovely afternoon with my cousin at this pub. It was the weekend but it wasn't crowded at all. We both fell in love with this pub. The pink sofa was so cute, the decoration is simple but nice. For me, when it comes to restaurants, service trumps everything! And their service was excellent. They are calm, and cool, showed respect and didn't rush us to finish our meals like the other Asian restaurant near King Cross. 😬 We had fish and chips, chicken salad, dessert, tea, beer and cocktails. We will def come back in the future.
