About This Pub
Ah, Fox on the Green – it's one of those pubs that really hits the spot for a relaxed evening in London. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are absolute gems; they're polite, chatty, and go out of their way to sort things like dietary needs, which is a massive plus if you're out with friends who have preferences. The atmosphere is just spot on – think chilled vibes with a good mix of locals and visitors, ideal for sinking a few craft beers or cocktails while the footie's on or enjoying the beer garden on a nice day. They've got loads going on too, like bottomless brunches and events, which makes it versatile for everything from casual meet-ups to celebrations. On the flip side, it's not the cheapest in town, so you might want to keep an eye on the bill if you're watching the pennies. And honestly, there have been a few grumbles about service not always being seamless – like sorting out bookings or avoiding delays with food – but overall, with a solid 4.4 rating, it seems like the good far outweighs the bad. If you're in Islington, I'd say give it a go; it's a proper friendly spot that could become your new local haunt.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always going the extra mile to make you feel welcome and even handle things like food allergies with care.
-
It's got a chilled, vibrant atmosphere that's perfect for unwinding, whether you're catching up with mates over a pint or watching the big game.
-
They offer a solid selection of craft beers and cocktails, plus specials like 2-for-1 deals that make it even more appealing.
-
The location in Islington is spot on – right on the green, with a lovely beer garden for those sunny days.
-
It's well set up for events, from live sport to private hires, making it a go-to for groups or special occasions.
Cons
-
Prices can add up quickly, especially in central London, so it might not be the most budget-friendly option for a casual night out.
-
There have been a few hitches with service, like not always acknowledging bookings properly or the odd delay with food, which can put a dampener on things.
-
As a tourist spot, it sometimes feels a bit overlooked in the basics, such as greetings when you arrive, which could make first-timers feel a tad ignored.

I visited The Fox on the Green in Islington a few weeks ago and had a great experience, thanks to E. She was so polite, friendly, and incredibly helpful—especially when it came to managing my food allergies. She took the time to make sure everything was safe and suitable, which really put me at ease. It’s rare to come across such thoughtful service. Thank you, E., for making my visit so enjoyable!
Chilled atmosphere, friendly staff, and a solid beer selection. Perfect spot to relax and unwind—definitely coming back!
My friends group local pub. We always go there to watch football together. Great vibe, top location. Is not exactly the cheapest but it is not a surprise in central london!
We came here as tourists using a gift card pre booked meal, with some minor difficulties in sorting that out, again these things are usually needlessly complex so totally understandable. The manager was very clear in his communication and the service was first class.
The food had a slight delay (our fault for coming on the day of a FA cup semi final and London Marathon), but we were made aware which I found to be very considerate.
The food arrived hot and fresh, well seasoned and great flavour. I had the spicy bad lad burger, which for a chicken burger laced with hot sauce amping other condiments, the chicken itself maintained it's crispiness and succulence.
The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, albeit loud (again, football). But I would definitely come again to see if it is a bit quieter. Definitely needed for a second visit.
I would recommend here for a good meal, with great service and food quality at an affordable price. Can't go wrong really!
As a tourist, getting a “pub” dinner was something in our list. Found this local place as having good combination in reviews and selection of food - and booked a table.
When we arrived, there was no greeting and us having booked a table was dismissed - just sit anywhere. Sure. And then we used the app through a QR code to order food. The app was a struggle and the payment failed. So we asked for help and the order was manually made. The price between the app and the till was different resulting in a “sorry” for having to pay 2£ extra for the same order.
The food was mediocre at best. Some wraps were filled, others were quite barren. The sharing plate was a mixed batch of good and bad food. Onion rings were soggy and soaked, chicken wings were only mildly warm and the “nachos” were converted into a mac and cheese thing. The garlic bread was just burnt.
Some parts were good: the chicken filets were nice and the pizza was freshly made and excellent.
For the price this meal was very mediocre and an experience I’d not recommend.
