About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Bristol Flyer, it really stands out as one of those unpretentious gems on Gloucester Road, blending that classic British pub feel with a bit of modern flair. The food is a highlight – I've heard mates rave about the burgers and sandwiches that are packed with flavour and hit the spot every time, paired with a drinks menu that's got something for everyone, whether you're after a craft beer or a cheeky cocktail. The beer garden is an absolute winner, especially on a sunny day, and they've got heaters for when it cools off, making it versatile all year round. The staff are just lovely, always attentive and making you feel at home, which is why it's so dog-friendly and welcoming for all sorts of occasions. On the downside, though, it's popular for a reason, so it can get a bit crowded, and while the recent buzz is all positive, that 4.3 rating hints there might be the odd off day or inconsistency that keeps it from being perfect. Still, if you're after a laid-back spot to catch up with friends or enjoy a quiz night, I'd say give it a go – it's got that authentic, homely charm that makes you want to return.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – think tasty burgers, shrimp sandwiches, and generous portions like those nachos that keep you coming back for more.
  • They've got a fantastic beer garden that's sheltered and heated, making it perfect for sunny afternoons or cosy evenings when the weather turns.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always going the extra mile, like bringing a bowl of water for your dog without being asked.
  • It's got a really relaxed and homely atmosphere with cosy booths and traditional wood-panelling, ideal for unwinding with friends over a pint or a cocktail.
  • The drinks selection is varied and spot-on, with craft beers, ales, ciders, and spirits to suit all tastes, plus handy QR code ordering that makes things a breeze.
Cons
  • While recent feedback has been glowing, the overall rating suggests there might be occasional inconsistencies, like mixed experiences for some visitors based on past vibes.
  • It can get quite busy, especially in the evenings or on weekends, which might make it tricky to snag a table or enjoy a quiet chat.
  • The operating hours seem a bit variable for Sundays, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any disappointment if you're planning a late visit.

Been coming here for years and the food and service is always brilliant! I love the shrimp sandwich but their burgers are also really good. Lovely staff. Great beer garden and loads of room inside

One of my "go to" pubs, with a good varied selection of drinks... spirits, ales, ciders, and everything else i fancy, and a great selection of very good food. The garden at the rear is a great space, especially in the summer, but does have ample heaters for the colder evening! Can't wait to get down there again

The place is really great - cosy interior, lovely beer garden, caring and attentive staff. Very relaxed atmosphere to unwind. It’s a very convenient place to be especially when you can order your food and drinks via the QR code provided on the tables. Revisited today, as I previously had mixed feelings about the food, however, I’m happy to admit that previously it was just an accident and a bad timing - the menu has a good selection, the fish and chips and chicken schnitzel are very good. I unfortunately still believe that the prices are a bit too high for a pub - as lovely as it is inside and in the garden, I definitely do think £27 for 8oz steak or £18.50 for fish and chips in a pub is higher than at any restaurant :(

No problem taking your dog in when we sat down straight away. The young lady behind the bar came out with a bowl of water for the dog, which we thought was very nice. Service was spot on the nachos, was large and tasty. Will definitely be visiting again. Many thanks
