About This Pub
Ah, The Bold Dragoon – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a relaxed get-together, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's a real gem in Weston Favell, with that fresh refurb giving it a cosy yet modern feel that makes you want to settle in for the evening. The food steals the show; folks rave about the tasty garlic and chilli prawns, perfectly cooked steaks, and those Sunday roasts that leave no plate untouched – it's all about hearty, flavoursome dishes that pair brilliantly with a good pint or a G&T. The team behind the bar and in the restaurant come across as genuinely passionate, offering top-notch service that makes you feel right at home, especially for groups or special occasions like birthdays. And let's not forget the live pianist on Saturdays or the pub garden's Pizza Patch, which adds a nice touch for those balmy evenings. On the flip side, it does seem like they might be a bit stretched on staff sometimes, leading to the odd wait that could put a damper on things if you're in a rush. Plus, sorting out a table might take an extra phone call if the online system doesn't play ball. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts – worth a visit for the positives, just keep those little niggles in mind to manage expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – think juicy steaks, hearty roasts, and delicious starters that leave you wanting more, perfect for a satisfying meal with mates.
-
Service is warm and welcoming; the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or celebrating something special.
-
It's a cosy, recently refurbished spot with a traditional country pub vibe, ideal for unwinding after a long day or enjoying live music like a pianist on Saturday nights.
-
They've got a great atmosphere for groups, families, or even a quiet dinner, and it's wheelchair-friendly, making it accessible for everyone.
-
The pub garden with The Pizza Patch sounds like a brilliant spot for al fresco drinks on a sunny afternoon.
Cons
-
It can feel a tad understaffed at times, which might lead to a slight wait for service, as mentioned in one experience.
-
Booking online might not always have your preferred slot available, so you could end up needing to call ahead, which is a bit of a faff.

Wasn’t expecting much when we walked in, but ended up genuinely impressed. The place looks great after the refurb – cosy but still modern. I had the garlic & chilli king prawns to start (really tasty) and the sirloin steak after – cooked spot on and super juicy. My friend went for the beer-battered haddock and it was massive and perfectly crisp. Staff were friendly without being over the top, and the live piano in the background added a really nice touch. Would definitely come back for another weekend dinner.
We were a group of 5 ladies having lunch today. We all chose from the 'Retirees' menu which had a lovely selection.
We all chose differently and all dishes were plentiful and delicious as were the desserts.
A special mention goes to our waitress 'Dior' ( I think thats the right spelling, apologies if not).
She was so attentive even though they were catering for a large W.I. luncheon and also a wake.
She smiled and made us laugh throughout our stay...She really was great! So Thank you to all concerned and we will definitely be back.
Stumbled on this place after a visit to Riverside hub with my sister & our children. I booked online around an hour ahead and was lucky to get a table on Easter Sunday. What a lovely pub & restaurant. The service was excellent and Sunday roasts superb, nothing was left on our plates. Desserts were delicious too. I’ll definitely visit again if going to riverside hub, as im not local.
5 Stars – A Hidden Gem!
We had a fantastic experience at The Bold Dragoon in Weston Favell! Olivia and her team were absolutely brilliant—so welcoming, attentive, and genuinely friendly. The food was superb, beautifully presented and packed with flavour. From start to finish, the service was excellent, and the whole atmosphere was warm and inviting. We’ll definitely be returning soon. Highly recommended.

Six of us went for my wife's birthday meal. She uses a wheelchair, which was not a problem. She is also vegetarian. Asparagus starter without egg, Aubergine tomato curry, warm chocolate pudding with custard. Washed down with G & T. She enjoyed it very much. Only one member of staff, looking after us, did a superb job. Rest of us had either cajun chicken or lemon & ginger chicken, which was all good. Orange chocolate pudding & ice cream worth having ago. In all we had good time. Thank you.
