About This Pub
Oh, what a gem The Blue Lias is, tucked away by the Grand Union Canal – it's one of those places that just invites you to kick back and unwind after a country walk. I love how the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome; they're the heart of the place, really. The food hits the spot for classic pub fare, like a well-done vegan chilli or a roast that pairs nicely with the scenic views, and don't get me started on the beer selection – it's been a favourite since the 80s! But, if I'm honest, it's not all smooth sailing; the menu can feel a touch restrictive if you're in the mood for something different, and there have been times when the portions or the odd dish haven't quite lived up to the hype. Still, with its peaceful garden and community events, it's a solid choice for a catch-up with mates, as long as you time your visit right to catch the kitchen hours. All in all, it's got that timeless pub charm that makes you want to return, quirks and all.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The stunning location right by the Grand Union Canal makes it a perfect spot for a relaxing pint and watching the boats glide by.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready with a smile and quick service that makes you feel right at home.
-
It's got a real traditional charm, with a history dating back to the 18th century and lovely features like the beautiful garden and festive decorations.
-
They offer a good selection of hearty pub grub and beers, plus extras like a caravan park and fishing, which add to the appeal for a day out.
-
The atmosphere is spacious and comfortable, ideal for groups or events, with plenty of parking and a peaceful setting in the Warwickshire countryside.
Cons
-
The food can be a bit inconsistent; some dishes are spot on, but others, like the fish and chips, might not quite hit the mark and feel a tad underwhelming.
-
The menu is on the limited side, so if you're after something more adventurous or varied, you might find yourself wanting more options.
-
Timing can be a challenge with early closing for food on certain days, meaning you have to plan your visit carefully to avoid missing out.
-
Portion sizes for some mains could do with being a bit more generous, as a few folks have mentioned not feeling entirely satisfied.

The outside seating next to the canal is really pleasant. The staff were really nice and couldn't be more helpful. Wasn't blown away by the food though. It was okay, but didn’t do the pub justice in my opinion. Ordered fish and chips and it came with French fries rather than chunky chips and the fish didn't taste all that fresh.
very nice pub with a function room that is seperate to the bar for parties and other events. very spacious and comfortable. food excellent. need to walk to bar for drinks but that's OK. plenty of parking outside and in a nice location. can have a country walk
I rarely to give 5 stars
But this restaurant is so perfect for me
The food was good, i ordered roast beef with veg and potatoes on the side
The taste was so good, but they need to be generous in the beef portion
The view is on the river directly
Prices were very acceptable
We decided to try Blue lias on recommendation and having previously visited many years ago, we were not able to have food as we arrived at 3.30pm after they stopped serving food on a Sunday, we did however have a drink and crisps. Nice spot to sit by canal. And watching the narrow boats in ideal weather 😍 we will not be deterred and go mid week. Would be helpful to have closing/opening times on Google or website 🤔
Decent pub grub. The staff are nice, the food comes quick and it has a traditional atmosphere without the smell of cigarettes or the sticky tables.
The menu is a little limited, although there are some specials. I had the vegan chilli and was pleasantly surprised, I would have it again. Grandad went for the pie as usual, the curry was decent and the lasagna went down a storm.
Right on the canal, great at the end (or beginning!) of a walk, and there is a car park around the back too.
