About This Pub

Ah, The Black Friar – it's one of those places that just warms your heart the moment you step inside. I mean, picture this: a beautifully restored pub from 1886, brought back to life with a mix of old-school elegance and fresh vibes, making it feel like a second home. The food is spot on – we're talking mouthwatering options like lamb scotch eggs or a cracking pie that leaves you wanting seconds, all paired with delightful drinks that go down a treat. The team there are an absolute joy; they're always on hand with a smile, quick to recommend a wine or whip up a Salford-inspired cocktail, and they make the whole experience feel effortless. Throw in some live music on occasion, and you've got a recipe for a memorable afternoon or evening. Of course, it's not without its quirks – it does fill up quickly, so booking ahead is wise to dodge any disappointment, and those varying hours might need a double-check if you're popping by on a whim. All in all, if you're after a spot that nails the balance of traditional pub fun with a touch of class, this is definitely worth seeking out for a relaxed get-together with mates.

What a marvelous Sunday! Our group of six had an absolutely delightful experience with the Sunday Service menu. The Tavern's atmosphere was perfect, with truly beautiful decor that set a wonderful tone. From the moment we arrived, we were met with the most friendly and helpful waiters, Xavier and Mark. Their humour and attentiveness truly enhanced our visit, making it even more enjoyable. And the food? Simply gorgeous! Every one of us chose a roast, and we can't recommend adding the extra sausage stuffing enough – it was a game-changer. The desserts were equally impressive, high-quality and delicious. Our only regret is not discovering this gem sooner!

Had an absolutely cracking dinner at The Black Friar in Salford. Our waiter Mark was a total gem—warm, friendly, and somehow always appeared right when we needed him (we suspect wizardry). To kick things off, my husband had the lamb scotch eggs (meaty perfection), and I went for the scallops (posh and delicious—felt very fancy for a Friday). But the real star of the show? The special: Chicken and mushroom pie with mash. That pastry deserves its own award ceremony. Flaky, buttery, and just… wow. We’d go back just to eat that pie in peace and call it a religious experience. Finished strong with a Banoffee Knickerbocker Glory that had us scraping the glasses like we hadn’t eaten in weeks. No shame. Highly recommend. Go hungry, leave happy. Possibly in a food coma.

One of the best pub lunches I’ve had for ages! We had a late Sunday lunch with family and friends and all loved it! The food and drinks were delicious and service was fantastic - thanks Mark! So knowledgeable about the wine etc. Loved the Salford version of espresso martini made with Salford rum! Highly recommend the whole experience. Lovely garden at the back of the pub too if the sun is shining.

We received a refreshingly friendly greeting when we arrived. The whole team is hugely professional. Amy served us and was knowledgeable and attentive. Will helped with our wine choice which was superb. The atmosphere, decor and ambience were stunning. Really buzzy. What a great meal and a fantastic night out. Our thanks to everyone who made it so special.
