About This Pub
Ah, The Black Bull Inn in Kirton – what a lovely little find it is! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks are raving about the food, which is spot-on every time, with hearty meals that hit the spot without breaking the bank. The staff really shine too; they're friendly and attentive, making sure everything runs smoothly even when the place is packed, like during those Saturday lunches or festive seasons. It's got that warm, community feel that's perfect for a casual meal with mates or family, and it's open most of the day, which is handy for a spontaneous pint or bite. On the flip side, it does get busy, so you might find yourself shuffled to the bar if there's a function on, and if you're not from around Kirton, it's a bit out of the way. Still, overall, it's a solid choice for a good night out – I'd say give it a go if you're after reliable grub and a cheerful atmosphere, but maybe check ahead if you're planning something special.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is absolutely brilliant – fresh, tasty, and consistently excellent, whether you're popping in for lunch or a special meal.
-
The staff are so friendly and welcoming; they go out of their way to make you feel right at home, even when things get busy.
-
It's great value for money, with hearty portions and affordable prices that make it a real gem for a casual night out.
-
The atmosphere is lovely and buzzing, especially on weekends, with a mix of families, locals, and visitors creating a warm, community feel.
-
It's reliably open seven days a week with straightforward hours, making it easy to plan a visit without any surprises.
Cons
-
It can get quite crowded, particularly during events or peak times, which might mean you end up in the bar area instead of the restaurant.
-
Being a village pub, it's not the most central spot if you're not local, so getting there might take a bit of effort.
-
The online presence feels a tad basic and repetitive, which doesn't give much of a heads-up before you arrive, though that's not a big issue once you're there.

Excellent food and service received. Had to sit in the bar as a function was going to be catered for in the restaurant part. Have eaten her before, food has always been excellent.

Stopped in for lunch on a trip - we aren't local. What a gem. Busy, buzzing pub with families, older people, regulars. Never seen anything like it in a village pub on a Saturday lunch. Warm welcome, great menu, fabulous value for money food. Smashing loos too. What's not to love.
Had my husband's and son's birthday meals here in December, it was lovely. And although it was busy due to the run up to Christmas, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, who were nice and friendly. Meals all came at the same time were hot and very tasty. Will definitely visit again.
