About This Pub

Ah, The Black Boy – it's one of those hidden gems in the Buckinghamshire countryside that just hits the spot for a proper pub experience. I have to say, the views from the garden are something else; imagine sipping on a craft beer while overlooking the rolling hills – it's pure bliss on a sunny day. The food really stands out too, with their seasonal menus and traditional Sunday lunches that are cooked just right and full of flavour, making it a go-to for a satisfying meal without breaking the bank. The staff are an absolute treat, always cheerful and attentive, which adds to that cosy, welcoming feel you'd expect from a classic village spot. They've got some great events lined up, like happy hour for drinks and bites or the monthly quiz nights that bring a bit of fun and community spirit. But, just to keep it real, parking can be a nightmare sometimes, so it's worth planning ahead if you're popping by car. And while the service is generally spot on, there might be the odd wait for your food even when it's not busy, which could be a minor frustration. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone after a relaxed outing with good grub and a friendly atmosphere – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.

Absolutely stand out. Relaxed atmosphere, stunning view (I'd say the best in Buckinghamshire), great food and lovely staff. Parking is a premium but it's worth it. A hidden gem.

Dining at The Black Boy in Oving was an absolute delight. The atmosphere was cozy and full of character, perfectly complementing the charm of the English countryside. What truly made the experience special was the traditional menu thoughtfully crafted, beautifully presented, and full of rich, comforting flavors. Every dish we tried was a celebration of local ingredients and culinary tradition. The service was equally impressive – friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which added a personal touch to the evening.

1st time visiting and won't be the last . Amazing view from the garden terrace . Made to feel very welcome with amazing service . The food is cooked just right and i need to say better and more tastier than some restaurants we have been to . Don't hesitate in booking and choose to eat in the garden . You will not be disappointed. Make sure to book a table before hand .

We Have been loads of times to the Black Boy as we live close by. We always have a great time when we go. They have lovely staff, really nice food and fair prices! And we always really enjoy the monthly quiz! We waited about an 45 mins for our mains on a very quiet night this evening. We ordered the lentil Wellington which was very nice! Only let down was the ‘gravy’ very thick and didn’t taste of anything. We also had the burger, vegetarian curry, pizza and garlic bread with mozzarella for starter, I can’t recommend the starter enough! Very delicious! We were all very full and enjoyed all our meals!
