About This Pub
Ah, The Barking Dog – what a gem in Urmston! I have to say, it's one of those places that just feels right from the moment you walk in, with its charming refurb of an old post office building blending traditional vibes with a bit of modern flair. The beer selection is brilliant, full of local brews and craft options that really hit the spot, and it's no surprise they're in the Good Beer Guide year after year. Pair that with some top-notch pub grub like their pies or a cracking Sunday lunch, and you've got a winner for a casual meal. The staff are genuinely warm and make you feel at home, plus it's great for families and even your furry friends. On a sunny day, the outdoor terrace is the place to be, and the events like quizzes and live music add a fun twist to evenings out. That said, it's a bit of a shame it's closed on Mondays, and the variable hours mean you might need to plan around that to make the most of it. Overall, it's a solid choice for a laid-back pint or a bite, and I'd recommend giving it a go if you're in the area – just keep an eye on the times so you don't miss out!

Good drink, lots of beers on tap and not just your standard. The staff were friendly. The weather was sunny so we made good use of the beer garden!
Just had one of the best Sunday lunches myself and my Dad have had. Delicious and amazing value for money
A no-nonsense drinkers pub that retains the relics of the post office.
The beer is served in a dimpled, handled pint glass!

Cosy pub in a former post office building. Wide range of local and international beers. Events include: pub quiz, poetry night, live music and painting night. I haven't eaten here, but friends have told me it serves good quality, pub-style food. Outdoor seating available. Friendly and efficient staff.
Both Boothroyd and I are making our first ever visit to this bar in an old Post Office building. A CAMRA Good Beer Guide pub three years running. 2022 to 24. Claim a CAMRA discount on beer. Four real ales and a real cider. Booth decided on a pint of Marble Brewery Pint. A 3.4% session bitter. Try a pint and pie for £10 when on special offer. Food on sale (pies..steak n ale, fish, curry pie etc.) and Sunday roasts. Super one room pub plus snug for hire with open air seating out front. Super find says Booth. Stayed for a 3 pie slider for £15 to share between us. Steak n ale, chicken n mushroom and chicken curry. We were not hungry until we smelt the gravy! Also had a pint of Dunham Massey Dark Mild at 3.8%. One small TV. Pipped music. Cocktails for £7.50. Popular with families. Some tables reserved. Pies excellent..and Booth knows a great pie! Toilets upstairs but also a ground floor disabled facility.
