About This Pub

Ah, The Anchor Pub & Kitchen – it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a laid-back day out. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff really go the extra mile to make you feel at home, with quick service and a chatty atmosphere that keeps things light-hearted. The food's a standout too; whether you're tucking into a proper Sunday roast or trying their fresh seafood specials, it's all about solid, tasty grub that leaves you satisfied. And let's not forget that prime location by the river – it's perfect for nipping in after a wander, grabbing a pint of real ale, and soaking up the views. On the flip side, though, there are a few quirks; like not accepting Scottish notes, which seems a bit old-school in this day and age, and the opening times can be a bit muddled, so you'd want to plan ahead to avoid any hassle. Overall, it's got that winning mix of good eats, welcoming feels, and a touch of riverside charm, making it a solid choice for anyone looking for a relaxed spot to catch up with friends. I'd say give it a go – the positives far outweigh the little niggles, and you'll likely leave with a smile.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and incredibly helpful, making every visit feel warm and welcoming – it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
  • The food is spot on, with a great selection from hearty breakfasts to delicious Sunday roasts and fresh seafood; plenty of options to suit different tastes.
  • It's in a brilliant spot right by the River Severn, perfect for a relaxing meal followed by a scenic walk – ideal for unwinding after a good feed.
  • Dog-friendly outdoors means you can bring your furry friends along, which is a real bonus for those who like to include their pets in the fun.
  • They've got a fantastic range of real ales and craft ciders, plus options for private events in the Boathouse, making it great for groups or special occasions.
Cons
  • They don't accept Scottish bank notes, which feels a bit outdated and could catch you off guard if you're relying on cash.
  • The operating hours might be a tad confusing from what's listed, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any disappointment if you're planning a visit.
  • While the food and service are generally top-notch, a couple of reviews mentioned minor niggles like payment issues, which could put a slight dampener on things.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Food arrived both quickly and hot. We dined outside with our dog. Only thing that could have been better was I tried to pay in cash, to be told we don’t accept Scottish bank notes. In this day and age! It is legal tender in England just like Bank of England is legal tender in Scotland.

We had a lovely walk along the river past the back of the cathedral, found the docks, and this pub great place to rest and eat.

I cannot say thankyou enough! The Anchor was the venue for my Bridal shower brunch! It was perfect! We used the Boathouse, for 16 people and the room looked beautiful! The communication from start to finish was excellent, nothing was too much trouble and the staffs help on the morning itself was fab. The breakfasts were all excellent!! Really tasty ingredients and everyone cannot wait to eat there again. Would 100% recommend for anyone looking for a private dining experience for any event. Thank-you again to you all so much for making my day perfect! Xx

Lovely pub with chatty friendly helpful bar and kitchen staff. Good selection of food and drink available. Neat compact rooms ideal for a one nite stay. Hot shower in the morning as well as a full English breakfast served compliments to the chef. Stone oven pizza available as well and the Hawaiian pizza I had was massive. If in the area would definitely stay again. Large beer garden would be ideal in the warmer months.

A lovely little pub and food place. I was really pleased with my visit here. The staff were absolutely lovely and the food was outstanding. Dog friendly pub outside so good to see the cute doggos. I've been here twice now and both times were superb. Very easy to find as it's just down diglis road and by all the boats in the harbour. Such a pretty view if you sit out in the garden at the back. I prefer the outside as it is more spacious and was very chill. I loved the atmosphere out there. A little bit loud and cramped inside. Kitchen opens at 5.30 for tea time. It also opens at 10am and closes at 2 for lunch. I had the gammon the first time and then the burger and they were so good. 😍 Definitely would like to come here again. Really chill pub and amazing food.
