About This Pub

Ah, Ye Olde Talbot – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a traditional British spot, tucked away opposite the stunning Worcester Cathedral, where you can almost feel the history in the air as you step inside. I have to say, the staff are an absolute delight; they're so attentive and make you feel right at home, whether you're just popping in for a quick drink or settling in for a meal. The food's a highlight too – that Sunday roast is spot on, with generous portions and flavours that leave you satisfied, and when breakfast is on, it's a proper treat with fresh, hot options that start your day off nicely. It's also brilliant for dog lovers, giving it that extra welcoming touch for a relaxed afternoon. On the downside, though, some of the rooms could do with a bit of a spruce-up; we've heard tales of worn-out bits like peeling paint and cracks, which might not live up to the charm elsewhere. And it can feel a smidge pricey if you're expecting more value for your money, especially with things like breakfast not always included. All in all, it's a lovely place for a catch-up with friends over a pint and some grub, but it's worth keeping those little niggles in mind if you're planning an overnight stay – still, I'd recommend giving it a go for the good vibes and that timeless pub feel.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic charm of this 13th-century coaching inn, right opposite Worcester Cathedral, makes it a real treat for a bit of atmosphere and character.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always going the extra mile to ensure you're looked after – it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
  • Food highlights include delicious Sunday roasts and a hearty breakfast when it's on offer, with perfect portions and fresh, tasty options that hit the spot.
  • Comfortable rooms and beds for a relaxing stay, plus it's wonderfully dog-friendly, so you can pop in with your four-legged friend for a pint in the garden.
  • A warm, welcoming vibe overall, with decent facilities like WiFi and space for functions, making it a solid choice for a casual get-together or a quick bite.
Cons
  • Some rooms feel a bit dated and tired, with issues like cracks in the walls or peeling paint, which can take away from the cosy feel you'd expect.
  • It might come across as a tad overpriced for the experience, especially if you're hoping for extras like breakfast to be included without any add-ons.
  • There can be occasional letdowns, such as no breakfast available on certain days like holidays, which might leave you wanting a bit more flexibility.

From the start I'm not a contestant from four in a bed and turned the matress upside down looking for a hair and ran my fingers all over everywhere looking for dust, got my magnifying glass out looking for poo stains. But I'm going to score it the same. Hosts 10 couldn't help you enough. Cleanliness 10. Facilities 9 great WiFi, OK some normal wear and tear, but let's look at our own dwellings they have no parking but there is a multistorey car park next door with great staff who explained all about how much you pay it works out about 50p an hour for secure parking for our three day stay of which allows you to forget about your car and explore the city centre which is minutes walking distance away have a drink and something to eat without worrying about driving. sleep 10 matress and pillows mmmmmmmm cosy and comfortable there is a road out of the front, but unless you live in a tent at the top of Ben Nevis, it's quite acceptable. Breakfast 8 was a bit rushed but continental and cooked breakfast brill. And the final question would I stay here again a big fat yes.

A centrally placed hotel with very comfortable beds and a great breakfast, £12.50 extra. Our room 22 was a bit tired , especially the bathroom which had cracks in the wall with paint peeling off. A large crack in basin, would have asked for a change of room but we had unpacked by the time we saw it. Quite noisy as bin wagon came down at 6.30am and Friar street was busy. Staff very friendly and bar area was pleasant. Only in room for short time so didn’t really spoil our stay. Car park convenient next door but £11 for overnight so pricey if staying for a while.

Me and my mum stopped at the pub here for Sunday lunch during a trip to Worcester. The Sunday roast was gorgeous and the portion size was perfect. Service was excellent and reasonably priced. Would recommend as a bit of a hidden gem.

Bed was comfortable, food and service was great. Breakfast was very nice!! I love a hot, fresh cooked breakfast. Perfect poached eggs. I think it is overpriced for the value. For the price breakfast should be included or discount on food at the pub should be offered.

Me and my partner stayed here Xmas Eve and Xmas night. The room was clean and comfortable. Great facilities including iron and ironing board and a hairdryer in the room. There was no breakfast available on Christmas Day morning, quite understandably, but the hotel automatically provided extra coffees, teas. Great shower. No complaints at all and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The decor could do with a refresh and rooms appear to be stair access only so check with reception when booking about whether there's lift access to rooms. Overall this hotel is great value for money, central location, staff looked after us. I'd definitely stay here again.
