About This Pub

Oh, Sunbridgewells is one of those hidden gems in Bradford that really sticks with you after a visit – imagine popping into what was once an air raid shelter, now transformed into a cosy bar with quirky artefacts and a tunnel-like ceiling that gives it this underground magic. From what I've gathered from chats and reviews, the staff are absolute stars, always ready with a smile and eager to help, whether you're just grabbing a pint or sorting out a big event like a hen night. The beers are solid and reasonably priced, and the pizzas from next door are a proper treat, making it easy to settle in for the evening. But, fair's fair, it's a bit of a shame that it's not as lively as it might have been in the past – just the pub and a pizza place holding fort now, so it can feel subdued at times, especially if you're there early doors. Still, if you're up for something a little different and don't mind the odd quiet spell, it's well worth a stop for that unique experience and good value on offer. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed get-together, as long as you go in with the right expectations.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant – it's got this quirky, underground vibe from its history as an air raid shelter, making it a real standout spot for a memorable night out.
  • The staff are top-notch and really helpful, especially for planning events like hen nights; they go out of their way to make everything smooth and enjoyable.
  • It's great value for money with affordable drinks and decent food options, like the pizzas that folks rave about – perfect if you're looking for a budget-friendly evening.
  • The place has a unique charm with interesting artefacts and features that make you feel like you're stepping back in time, which is a lovely touch for a casual catch-up.
Cons
  • It seems like it's not as bustling as it used to be, with just the pub and a pizza spot left, so it might feel a tad quiet or underutilised at times, especially during the day.
  • While it's got a lot going for it, the overall experience can vary depending on when you visit – it might not always live up to the hype if you're expecting a lively crowd.
  • There's a mention that it's primarily just a pub and one food option now, which could limit things if you're after more variety in your evening out.

Great atmospheric place which was originally the air raid shelter for Bradford city centre. Quirky artifacts and info. Would definitely make a return visit.

A quirky venue. Unfortunately just a pub and a pizza place left in what had been a thriving venue. Worth a visit just for the experience.

When I needed help to plan my sisters Hen Night the team at sunbridge wells were excellent. Never would I of thought to have an event there but there was everything all in one place. We enjoyed every single minute 💃🏼They cater for all budgets and although all staff were amazing Harry was fantastic - kept the drinks topped up and made sure everyone was ok. For anyone looking for the same I would 100% recommend and certainly be going again ourselves in the future. Thank you 😀

We went on a Saturday afternoon before a football match. Staff were friendly, beer was adequate & good value. We ordered pizza from the pizzeria next door who brought it to our table in the bar next door. The pizza was very good! I suspect it’s much livelier of an evening than early doors Saturday lunchtime. A lot of places we’re still settling up. I’ll come back!

The atmosphere is incredible in this bar, with the walls giving a proper feel of being underground! When I used the toilets they had been kept very clean, identifiable by a clear sign. The bar was epic to eat and drink in, having a tunnel shaped ceiling and lights overhead as well as at the feet level! It was comfortable to sit down and my flavoursome drink was served quickly, followed by a true Italian pizza that was delicious.
