About This Pub
Ah, the Rugby Tavern – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its warm vibe and solid offerings, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's brilliant for a casual get-together; the food's often spot on, with tasty dishes that pair perfectly with a pint, and they've got that family-friendly touch that makes it easy to pop in with the kids or the dog. Plus, if you're a sports fan, it's ace for watching events like the Women's Euros or the Lions tour on the screens. The staff seem genuinely friendly, which always makes the visit more enjoyable, and the beer garden's a treat on nicer days. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – there have been times when meals arrive a bit overcooked or take longer than expected, even if it's not too busy, and some folks have mentioned portions feeling a smidge small for the money. Still, with its affordable specials and handy facilities, it's worth a go if you're in the area; just keep an eye out for those little niggles to manage your expectations.

-
Affordable deals like the three-course special make it easy on the wallet, and they've got top facilities including disabled access and a car park.
Cons
-
Food can sometimes come out overcooked or dry, which puts a bit of a dampener on the meal.
-
Wait times for dishes might drag on a tad, even when the place isn't packed, which can be frustrating.
-
Portions aren't always as generous as you'd hope, especially for the price, leaving you wanting a bit more.
-
There have been instances where certain items, like steak, weren't up to scratch with too much fat or uneven quality.

I’ve been here several times and it’s usually a good meal out but have just been and considering it wasn’t what I would deem as very busy and we only ordered 2 dishes and drinks it took a while for the food to come out, not long enough to make a complaint about however, what arrived was over cooked like it had been sat under the hot plate for a while, I’m not saying it should be like Michelin star or anything but the cheese burger loaded fries came out with the cheese sauce beginning to congeal and burger bits dry and crusty, I ordered a medium rare steak which in the past has come out super but this time, it was overcooked and looked like it had a knife cut mark in it which I didn’t notice straight away but thought it was a bit odd.
Not all of the meal was bad though, I’m fussy with the fat on my steak but this was cooked lovely and the overall flavour was great so couldn’t understand why the rest of it was overdone other than being sat for too long, the garlic and mushroom sauce was done well and really complimented the meal.
The noise from the kitchen was rather distracting too with loud music every time the doors opened and chefs singing at the top of their lungs, I’m glad they enjoy their job but please not at the expense of my meal, plus no one came to check if we were enjoying our meal, I wasn’t willing to send it back as it was getting on for 9pm and didn’t want my mum to be out too late nor did I want the chefs finishing any later than they needed to as I can empathise with them and their long shifts.
Hopefully next time I’m there (which will be very soon) things will be a bit better, I appreciate the restaurant industry can be busy and can vary from pub to pub and in all honesty this is my first proper review I’ve left and hope it is taken in good spirit
Delicious food! 😋
Highly recommend!
Child friendly and dog friendly!
Staff were polite.
Wifes meal was spot on.
However i ordered the mixed grill, started with the chicken, it was so dry i couldnt swallow it, young lady said she would get me a new piece, so while waiting i tried to eat the steak, unfortunately it was mostly fat and unedible, they kindly offered to start fresh, brilliant service however food that came out 2nd time the steak absolutely stunk awful and the juices of the steak had tainted most on the plate.
The gamon was good, the 2nd chicken dry again. The sausages are the cheepist of the cheap more substance in a frankfurter.
Staff apologised and were polite and offered a free desert, when taking my meal away, the smell however had put me off eating.

An excellent experience when taking my family out for a meal.Great food served quickly led by Danny the fantastic manager and his team.I cannot recommend the RT highly enough it has a great garden for sunny days but a great atmosphere within the pub for cosy nights too.
All the food coming out of the kitchens looked great,I could have eaten any of it.Thank you Danny and team for a marvellous eating experience.
My first visit. Went early and ordered before 5.00pm for 3 course special at £8, drinks extra. The courses are not large but ample given the price and my appetite. The food was presented nicely and quickly, well cooked, quite at that time and I enjoyed my meal. All in all a very pleasant experience.
