About This Pub
Ah, the Hope & Anchor – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a reliable old mate in Leamington Spa, you know? From the reviews I've come across, folks absolutely rave about the beer selection; it's got that top-notch Guinness that's supposedly the best in town, and a good range of ales that keep things interesting without overwhelming you. The cleanliness is another highlight – it's clear the team puts in the effort to keep everything tidy and welcoming, which really makes for a pleasant visit. Whether you're popping in for a chat with the regulars or to catch a game on the telly, the atmosphere is just spot on for a relaxed evening. On the downside, it's not the biggest spot, so it can get a bit cosy when the crowd builds up, and some prices might make you think twice if you're watching the pennies, especially with cheaper alternatives nearby. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone after that authentic pub experience – honest, unpretentious, and full of good vibes, even if it's not trying to be anything flash.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
Fantastic selection of beers, including what many call the best Guinness in Leamington Spa, making it a real treat for ale enthusiasts.
-
The place is spotlessly clean and well-maintained, with staff taking pride in everything from the signs to the smokers' area, which adds to that cosy, welcoming feel.
-
It's got a warm, friendly atmosphere that's perfect for chatting with locals or enjoying a traditional pub vibe, and they show sports on the TVs for a bit of excitement.
-
As a proper locals' spot, it offers a genuine sense of community and a hearty welcome that makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
Cons
-
It's a bit on the small side, which might make it feel cramped when it's busy, especially if you're after more space to spread out.
-
Some drinks can seem a tad pricey compared to nearby options, like a pint of Carling being a bit steeper here than just down the road.
-
The overall setup is fairly basic, so if you're looking for something fancy or with lots of extras, it might not quite hit the mark.

Very nice traditional pud. Always plenty of people in there. Good selection of beers.
This is a great locals pub. Good beer, very clean Los and a warm welcome. I was past every day and I see the cleaning of the signs, pavement, smokers area and more. They take great pride. If you want a good pub, with a good local landlord please give them support. Beer was £4 a pint at March 2025.
The best pint of Guinness in town. My favourite pub in Leam. A very friendly pub to visit.
Fairly basic pub, close to the main part of town, a couple of ales to choose from. Sport shown on the TVs.
Very small but with a little beer garden, and at 3.20 a pint of Carling I think it's better to go 1 minute to the next bar and save money. Carling in the greyhound is 2.60 however Stella in the builders is just 2.70
